Full Version: Happy Tax Day!
Are we taxed too much? Federally? State? Local?
Although I pay a "mere" 12% of my income to the federal govt (actually paid), add in State and Local Income taxes (about 4% and 3.5%, respectively), property taxes (about 2.5% of my income).
That doesn't include Social security, Medicare, or Sales taxes (7% of purchases in my state and county).
That adds up to 19.5% in income tax, 2.5% in property tax, and (estimate) 5% in "other" taxes.
That adds up to 27% of my income going to the government.
I belong to the "middle class" making just over $50k per year and my wife doesn't work (this will probably change soon).
Anyone feel the current tax burden is "fair"?

King of England imposed a tax on tea. To protest, we threw it overboard. Boston Tea Party.
If they thought that was unfair back then, they should see us now. Cig tax, hotel tax, sales tax, income tax, gas tax, beer tax, property tax, tax tax tax. It's enough to make one sick.
Like I've always said: the gov't needs to learn to spend the money they already have more effectively, rather than just create new sources of revenue

I have to agree we are way over taxed so lets get rid of some of the things we dont really need and see if we can save a few bucks. lets see: performing arts; Im deaf so i dont go to plays anyhow and they charge admission when you go yourself so why are we supporting them? toss em! should save a few bucks,umm how about getting rid of all the police departments we got? In this state if you need a cop you have to first find out if you live in the city or the county and then call the one you need, lets eliminate one department and make all cops go where needed. Okay saving up a bunch here now! Oh and how about when it comes time to pay your local taxes, just because i live in the city i have to pay county taxes also but folks in the county dont have to pay for city taxes, Well i dont care if the folks in the county dont get their roads plowed in the winter or not so lets eliminate that and save me some more. Oh and one more thing: lets eliminate all school buses, Just cause they live in the country dont mean they cant still walk to school, as most of our fathers can attest to: you know how they all had to do chores in the morning and still walk to school 15 miles in a blizzard, with god knows what kind of wild animals after them. Now that should really save us big bucks.
