Hi everyone, my nick of course is Ix Chel, but my real name is Cynthia. I have come here after deciding that I do not want to continue my membership at Newsvine any longer. Some of my reasons is that I noticed the level of debate here is on a different level and much more professional. I was impressed with the debating techniques of some of the posters.

I was born in Dallas, Texas and am going to be 39 this July. I have four kids, but they arenīt so much of kids anymore. My oldest is on his way to Afghanistan in the National Guard and is almost 20. Three are boys and 1 girl..my youngest is a boy and is 14.

January 2008 I made the difficult decision to move out of the USA to Honduras, where my husband is from. He and I are both US citizens, he naturalized in 2007, but I want my son to be around his family and I have decided that caring for my in laws is a priority for me as well as us planning on our retirement. The economy prompted some of my decision. I donīt regret it, I have made many friends and learned many things in my time here especially why I am so lucky to be an American and why democracy is so important..I was proud of my neighbors and friends standing up for freedom here in June of last year...I only hope Americans could be inspired to such strength in defending their democracy...I am sure I would not be disappointed.

My politics lean more to Libertarian though I used to be a raving conservative and found myself voting for Obama in 2008 and having partially regretted it and partially not regretted it. There are times when he amazes me and times when he makes me mad as all get out...but I guess that is to be expected since I am not a liberal.

I like to post long posts sometimes and you will just have to put up with that about me...I am wordy and always have been in real life and on the net.

As a Democrat I voted for Obama, and I am not totally happy with what he has done in office, a tad too conventional and centristic for my tastes sometimes, but I still think he's better than his opponent would have been.

I am a mother and a grandmother as well (my granddaughter nearly 7 months old). It will be good to have another active, female voice in the debate. It will be interesting and fun to read your posts, especially since you live outside the U.S. and can bring us a different perspective. thumbsup.gif

Thank you. I was drawn here by the immigration debate and the level headedness that seemed to be a part of the debate. I look forward to the day I have grandchildren, but I donīt think it is happening in the near future. I agree McCain with his present state of mind is anything, but what I wanted representing me. My husband is a Republican, and for the first time voted in a presidential election and he voted for McCain...now he is counting the times he regrets that vote after this flip flop against Hispanics. I love discussing politics.

Welcome aboard Ix Chel.

I'm curious why you feel that enforcing immigration laws is inherently "against Hispanics" when your husband has done the right thing and gone through the right process to become a citizen. I'd think he'd be proud of doing things the right way and not sneaking into the country and living under the shadow that comes with being here illegally.

It isnīt so much how it is enforced as how the laws are applied and how Hispanics, even when legal or citizens are treated. He is proud, as am I, but what we arenīt proud of is the way we are treated as if we were second class citizens sometimes even though my family came when Texas was admitted as a state. I think we have to sit back and walk in someone elseīs shoes before we judge them and we have to have some serious comprehensive reform and be honest with the fact that both sides have let it happen. Face it the guy who wants to wash my car or mow my lawn is not a threat to me or anyone else for that matter. I am against government intrusion and find it surprising the amount of Republicans that turn into socialists when it comes to immigrants.
