Well, I suppose this is random, but here goes anyway: I'm a big fan of cheese. So, just as a question/little topic for discussion, are any of you cheese lovers? If so, what kinds do you like? Personally, I like swiss and provologne, but extra sharp cheddar is nice. I'm scared by things like gorgonzola and cottage cheese though sad.gif

you are sick little monkey biggrin.gif

just playing around, these topics are good now and then vs all the heated debate biggrin.gif

i like it on all kinds of food, i usually get my subs with two or more types of cheese on them when i can.
makes for a far better sandwhich then most would think.

I like all the standard cheeses, but not the processed ones.
So of course, I like a good pizza, Ham or Canadian Bacon being my favorites.
IMHO, the best home cooked pizza is to start with the Red Baron 4 cheese pizza, and then add your own toppings. You get more cheese that way, than just buying their Canadian Bacon pizza.

I guess I would have been considered a "cheese lover" when I was little, but a cheese lover I am no more. sad.gif

While I'm not a lover of it, I do enjoy it on many different foods... often times drowning in condiments. Among those foods I still eat cheese on: hamburgers, turkey sandwiches and subs, ham sandwiches and subs, broccoli and baked potatoes.

When I was little I constantly stole entire blocks of Velveeta cheese before my mom could set the burgers on the grill and often tried to choke myself on Cheeze Whiz. biggrin.gif

Nice to agree on something,Bean!

I love cheese! w00t.gif My current favourite is Mahon! tongue.gif from the island of Minorca.
Cyan
Mmmmm......Feta. biggrin.gif I especially like it on pizza or Greek salads.

Camembert, Brie, Gouda, Swiss, Mozzarella, Colby, Muenster, Cheddar. Roquefort is a little too strong for me. I like soft cheeses the best! tongue.gif

I detest cheese. Always have. The first words I learned in Italian (during my first visit when I was seven) were 'no formaggio' I can't even stand the smell.

My love of good cheese is the one factor that keeps me from being a vegan.

I love strong Cheddar -- the sharper the better. We get two pounds of the stuff shipped to us every month from Shelburne Farms in Vermont, which uses milk from the Swiss Brown variety of cow to produce an outstanding cheese.

I love real Roquefort (not the "blue cheese" sold in most US supermarkets.) It is made from sheep's milk, and aged in a particular set of caves in France. It makes a wonderful salad.

I love real Mozzarella (not the rubbery stuff sold in most stores.) It is made from water buffalo milk, and is soft and creamy with a wonderful flavor. Best served with fresh basil and freshly ground black pepper.

I love real Feta, made from sheep's milk. As cyan said, it makes an excellent Greek salad.

I love almost any kind of goat milk cheese, from the sweet dessert cheeses, to the very strong, hard, aged cheeses. The goat milk gives it a special, tangy flavor.

A friend from work tells me about something that they do in Michigan.
They have some kind of cheese curds that get warmed up in the microwave just before eating them. She brought some to work and they have an interesting texture, seem to sqeak when you bite into them. Would probably go better with beer, but you can't bring that to work.

I have had this in Madison, Wisconsin. They were sold at the huge Farmer's Market they have around the State Capitol Building, so they were not heated up. They were advertised as "Guaranteed to Squeak." I tried them, didn't think much of them.

I had completely forgot about muenster cheese. I prefer the more bitter cheeses. This carries over from my other likes of things like strong black coffee and dark chocolate for example, but I suppose that's another topic. Pretty much though, I like any cheese. Feta is good, as I like goat cheeses quite a bit. w00t.gif

Mmmnn... cheese. biggrin.gif

Cambozola, Brie, Port Salut, Stilton, Edam, Cashel Blue, Jarlsberg, Colby, Camembert, Emmenthal, Extra Sharp Cheddar, Gruyere...

i love feta (greek...) and cheddar! tongue.gif

mozzerella is good in moderation but even better mixed in with cheddar!!

hooray for cheese flowers.gif

I'm a cheese lover. I like most any natural cheese and loathe processed cheese. I'm especially fond of cheddar, from mild to extra sharp, swiss and provolone. For cooking and salads I like parmesan, romano, mozzarella, bleu cheese (or roquefort) and feta. Most any cheese is worth experimenting with but the ones I already mentioned are the ones I like to keep in stock.
Artemise
ME too, mmm cheeese, my dietary downfall.
Buffala Mozzarela with tomatoes, olive oil and fresh basil. Toasted Brie sandwiches with tomatoes.
I think olive oil, tomatoes and wine, chili peppers, as well as honey are special gifts from the Gods.
Feta is truly fine, a good French Roquefort, Italian Gorgonzola not too ripe, a few great Spanish, already mentioned Mahon and what they call 'Drunken Cheese' a semi hard sheep milk cheese, steeped in wine.
I love soft 'chevre' if its good and tasty not bland and chalky. Fresh cheeses are great too, these are usually Mexican in the states. How about Gruyere , straight or fondue? I was in Gruyere Switzerland, a tiny cheese village on a mountain, quaint and pristine.
Aged Parmesano? makes great gourmet popcorn. Then there is good old American sharp cheddar, with apples perhaps? My favorite is the Wisconsin white.

Cheesy dishes: fettucini Alfredo, rajas con queso, seafood Au Gratin, quesadillas, pizza, eggplant parmegiana, salads with goat cheese.

I hate processed cheese. 1/3 more milk?, all the rest chemicals. Yuk.
Nu Marx
Cheese rules. I'm partial to American, Swiss, Provologne, Mozzarella, and Cottage.
Wertz
I kinda forgot about cottage cheese. Somehow I don't really think of it as cheese. Does anyone else here go for huge great chunks of bread with cottage cheese and apple butter? unsure.gif
Momof3
I love cheese. Some more than others. not real fond of blue cheese or roquefort. But one I haven't seen mentioned is Munchie Cheese. Hence the name. it is geat to munch on. Anyone else like this one? tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif
AGiantBean
I'm afraid to say that, cheese lover as I am, I've never heard of this before. Are you sure it isn't just a local brand or something with a different name?
Momof3
I don't know if it is a local cheese. But I will try to describe it. It is sort of a mozzerella/Munster cheese blend. Maybe it is under a different name elsewhere? blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif
Ultimatejoe
Munchie sounds more like a brand name than an actual type of cheese.

And by the by, the best cheese by far is havarti, but a good 12 year old cheddar is nice.
AGiantBean
I'll check around, momof. By the way, your post is freaking me out. All the little faces blink at the same time. AAH!!!
blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif blink.gif
Momof3
That is so funny AGiantBean. I didn't realize they all blink at once. laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
Zebbeddee
I love cheese. I think its wierd though, that a food found in most american and western european fridges is actually curdled mammal birth milk with added salt left to ferment for years in a cellar.

But hay, I like it. Particularly Brie and stilton (especially with crackers) and plain mild cheddar for cheese on toast.

Does anyone else just like eating cheese on it's own. I know I do.
kmsouthern
Good grief how did I miss this thread?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE cheese!

Asiago, Romano, White Cheddar, Buffalo mozzarella (the BEST!!!!), Provolone, Emmental(er), Meunster, and Gouda and among my favorites...nothing tops Buffalo Mozzarella from a good deli though - the one thing I miss about NJ more than anything is being able to get this stuff in a corner deli...you just cannot find it in AZ (as far as I know) - but it is all over the place in Belgium! It tastes a little different from the East Coast U.S. stuff, but still delicious!

Oh and momof3 - I've heard of Monchichi's but not Munchie Cheese w00t.gif devil.gif hehehe...

But did some digging and here you are:

Swiss Rose International - Mun-chee Cheese - you're not crazy smile.gif
Momof3
Thanks kmsouthern for finding the correct spelling of munchee cheese. And the link. Hope you people who haven't tried it do. It is really good! tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif

cheese is good stuff! w00t.gif

I love sandwiches. My favorite sandwich cheeses are american, swiss, & provologne.

I also really like that white sort of block cheese with the peppers in it...its kind of spicy. I dont know what it's called. While on the topic of block cheese sharp cheddar is great! blink.gif whistling.gif

I get cravings for nachos sometimes...ok a lot blush.gif

I'm just a fan of dairy in general...particularly yogurt (I eat a large tub every week) and cheese! wub.gif

between my dairy habits and sports no osteoporosis for me later! biggrin.gif
