Hey everyone.

Here's a little secret. I know didly squat about economics. My economical knowledge is where to find the cheapest ramen in my university town (wal-mart, 10 for $1.00 w00t.gif ).

So, what are the best sites and/or books to learn about economics and economic theory, from Conservative and Liberal views, and what makes them the best?

I'm in the process as well...

Wealth of Nations...

Keynesian theory...

A few by Milton Friedman...

Finish it off with some Paul Krugman, and you'll be set biggrin.gif

I'd suggest starting with this one: Eat the Rich by P.J. O'Rourke.

I'd follow it up with Economics in One Lesson by Henry Hazlitt.

After those, then tackling the stuff understandingpolitics recommended might make some sense, but not before.

Here's a good historical overview:

A History of Economic Theory and Method

I found an older edition in the public library.
Hugo
My two favorite books, both highly readable, are Galbraith's "The Affluent Society" and Friedman's "Free to Choose". Both books give you some history of economic thought while defining the competing philosophies in macroeconomics today. Galbraith is proof that liberals can be brilliant (though still wrong,of course). I majored in Economics and I got more education from reading these two books than any single textbook.

I liked a book called T.A.N.S.T.A.A.F.L.. I do not recall who wrote it. I read it about 25 years ago. It was fairly short paperback sort of book compared to most economics textbooks.

Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams both have some good books on basic economics as well.
