I used to be a volleyball fanatic, but I got tired of trying to find/organize teams and leagues. More recently I've played a little soccer (indoor and outdoor - two different things) and dabbled in tennis. I think of snowboarding and hiking as activities more than as sports, but might as well throw those in too. For an old fart with a stressful sedentary job, I'd say I keep pretty active.

I'm a runner. It's my sanity. I'm not competitive, though, so I'm not sure that qualifies as a sport.

You think you have it rought,
Rancid? Basketball ranks as my favorite to play, but I'm only 5'6"! I'd like to think that if I had any skill and a lucrative shoe contract I could be the next Steve Nash... but I think even he's taller than me. And I think he does it without a shoe contract, too... I'm doomed.
For the record I do like other sports, though. Football is my favorite sport to watch but I'm only good as a runningback and even then I don't have enough friends who are interested in playing to play that often. I run more than my fair share each day, but it's in the name of fitness rather than pleasure.
I would like to maybe play tennis sometime since the lights go out pretty early on the basketball courts here. Tennis usually gets an extra two hours or so, so we're thinking of taking it up this summer. I'll let you know how it goes
Edited to add: While not an option, I might also endorse leisurely strolls across the waters of your local dead sea...

I used to play football.
I played Center(Off. line), and Nose Tackle(Def. line), l would still play today but they past thing saying home schoolers aren't allowed to participate anymore.. I'm not tall enough anyway I don't think, I'm 5'7" 1/2, but I'm a solid 280 pounds.... they say "Lower man wins on the line"... My nick names in football were: 'Wheels', 'Rhino', and 'Tank'.
When we still had TV to watch the games, my favorite team was the steelers, and my favorite player was Jerome Bettis.
Others I like are distance swimming, Vollyball, Tennis, and a little bit of baseball.

Wow. I'm the only person who likes golf.

How can you people not like golf! The intense competition! The adrenaline rush that one receives as they step up to the tee in eager anticipation of what's to come! The feeling of eagerness as the ball soars...... soars........soars.........(and in my case) lands in the sand bunker! Anyway, I think it's fun to play. It requires lotsa skill, most of which i don't have yet, although I'm fairly decent.

So many good choices. I can not pick out one. Soccer is my main current sport though I do play in a slowpitch league during the summer.
I can not ever see myself playing golf due to way too much waiting and never getting ones cardiovascular system reved up.
I love the teamwork of volleyball. There is never an inactive moment for any player while the ball is in play.
One of the best high school milers in the US is local. I saw him run a 4:05 a month ago. Track and field is a great challenge. Too bad it is much like football where competition is hard to find once out of high school unless you are on a university team.

Wow. I'm the only person who likes golf.
Don't worry, golf is probably my favorite sport. I played on my high school team and try to play as much as I can. (which is not much) I also played soccer, football and basketball in highschool, but tired of them when they became a way of life instead of something to do for fun. I enjoy golf because you can play by yourself, or go to the course and join up with some people you don't know. I have met a lot of interesting people that way. I am starting to teach my wife to play golf too, so we can play together.
It's also doesn't hurt to be a fairly decent golfer when your boss asks you to be on his team in the company scramble.

I being a woman, being only 5' even and weighing only about 96 pounds can't see me playing too many sports. So to say what sport I play listed here would be none. So can't vote here. But I do like bowling. And I do bowl. Is that a sport? However I am a big sports fan. If I could vote on which sport I like to WATCH the most I think it would be a toss up of 2. I love to watch Hockey and Football. Golfing is sooo boring to watch. Sorry to all you golfers.

I'm kinda disappointed (although not at all surprised) that nobody picked Ultimate Frisbee as the sport of sports. Momof3, it's non-contact so you should look up a league in your area. (We're everywhere...)
And Golf is no more a sport than darts or gin-rummy.

The only sports I've ever much enjoyed participating in are martial arts, specifically Shito-ryu Karate. Fencing and competitive combat pistol shooting would be up my alley too.
I have zero affinity for team sports of any kind. I understand the team thing on the intellectual level but can't relate to it on the emotional level. Perhaps that relates to my avatar.

I have to take offense to that. It is widely agreed that golf is the hardest sport to play, and is impossible to master. It takes hours and thousands of balls hit on the practice tee to be a competitive golfer. I agree that a big, fat guy can go out and play golf, but it is much, much harder to actually compete. When I played on my high school golf team I walked 36 holes every day after school, except when I had a match. That takes a fair degree of conditioning to do that and still have the stamina to concentrate and execute the shots.
I have played ultimate frisbee as well, and enjoy that a lot. Frisbee golf is fun as well, especially if you have a Labrador.

Disc golf is by far my favorite sport to play. For anyone who has never played/heard of it, the game functions the same as golf, except that you throw discs/frisbees toward a basket down range. Its been raining so much that I haven't been able to get to play it that much so far this spring, but hopefully this summer will be much more dry. My favorite sports to watch are baseball and football.

You guys can take hockey, but give us some credit for lacrosse, the Native American game, thank you very much, lol

What is "futbol"?
Is that an interchangeable term for "soccer" in the USA, or is it distinct in some way?
But maybe one day America will start calling "soccer" "football", and think of another name for your parochial sports-based entertainment industry in which only one man on each team ever touches it with his foot.
As for my fave sport - it isn't on the list and is a proper man's game (though ladies play it too). Rugby football (just "rugby" to friends). It's like US "football", but more kicking goes on; they don't wear all the fancy dress stuff; and the same men stay on the pitch for 80+ minutes (with a break at around 40) and don't have to go and lie down after one or two "plays". Nor are there 5 minute gaps between "plays" to allow commercial television to make some more money - it's a game to be seen live and in person. My country (Wales) used to be exceptionally good at it, but sadly aren't any more.

Futbol is the spanish spelling for soccer. Since I'm near Mexico saying foot-ball means American football and saying fooot-bol means soccer.

American Football isn't sports-based entertainment, the ball touches 2 players feet (punter and kicker) and other than the Superbowl American Football isn't boring to watch.

Ooh TWO players - ample justification for the designation FOOTball.
As for being boring to watch, that's a matter of opinion, and is based a much on what you're used to as on any intrinsic feature of the game. For most (but not all) Europeans, "football" is not only very dull to watch, it's even duller to PLAY. I understand that most Americans think of soccer the same way.
What I
don't understand is why rugby isn't more popular over there - the equipment requirement is a ball, boots (and a gumshield if you like wearing teeth!), and a field to play on - you could use a "football" field for the posts. It's got the tactical nuances and big action that are draws to "football", yet doesn't have the low scoring that puts people off footie (i.e. soccer). But it's still a pretty small minority sport over there.
