Right now its very very difficult to look in the mirror and say we are the good guys in Iraq. War is certainely hell.
Id like to turn your attention to some things that are going on there:

http://islamonline.net/English/News/2003-0...article01.shtml This one is more important.

Go America mentioned to me in the 'What shall we do with Bush' thread that Saddam was an evil tyrant ( not quoting) that massacred his own people and that was enough justification for the war. Yet we are killing a plenty in our quest for Iraqi liberation. He and others approve of going into Iran next.

Someone said that the world cannot police itself so we must do it. Others have said Iran needs to go down because of its support of terrorists. Others have implied that America is 'righteous' in its 'good' intentions about Iraq and also Iran and that is enough to have the wars, in defense and also WOT and evil despotes.

I wonder if the majority of Americans really understand the implications of these wars, both in cost to the population we invade and to ourselves. Dont we most often have a big invasion, then in our minds move on..without care as to what happens in the aftermath. Our attention span is so short and the media forbidden or doesnt care to discuss 'the rest of the story'. Afghanistan is also in ruin, another job left unfinished and basically unsupported.

It was all a great heyday, the tearing down of the statue of Saddam, a staged media event, but now the country is in anarchic chaos and we are quite easily moving on to suggest future invasions.

War creates at least 3 ruined generations. Usually through rapes and subsequent generations born from them, but also hatred and resentment against the invading forces, civil war in power grabs, perceived or authentic abuses and looting, and its mostly innocent civilians who pay the biggest price, if not the ultimate one.

What is going on in Iraq right now is a disgrace, does anyone care? Is the road to hell paved with good intentions? Can we concentrate on finishing one job before we move on to another new and improved massacre of innocents? Is this all justified in the wake of 911? Can we monetarily afford to 'adopt' all these countries as a benevolent patriarch?

And first and foremost, what the hell are we doing, really , when it comes to terrorism? I just dont think we are doing a great job of liberation, democracy and freedom we are supposed to bring. How many conflicts can we open and not close?
I feel we are a great bull in a China shop, using 911 to stomple around completely out of control and not getting anywhere in our (supposed) aim, to eliminate or reduce terrorist activities.

These are many questions, take your pick or add your own. I am admittedly all over the place with this. I am slightly worried about our callous attitude and lack of self preservation in a gung ho philosophy towards remaking the world to our liking.

Artemise, I'm sorry, this is just too vague to debate. sad.gif

Since we have SO many Iraq War threads open right now, we need to be very specific with the debate question so the issues don't get muddled together.

Please PM me with a clear question for us to debate. Thanks flowers.gif
