It looks like Rudy is going to run against Hilary for the Senate seat she now holds.

This would be her worst nightmare.

How would you predict this race? What impact on her presidential aspirations? Might this force her to try a run for Pres now, before she gets hammered by Rudy?

It'd be close, but I think it would still go to Clinton. Remember, before September 11, 2001, Giuliani had become almost universally loathed in New York City (and he never had that much appeal state-wide). Plus, the Clintons came off about as well as he did in the immediate aftermath. Since then, Hillary Clinton's appeal has only broadened, while Rudy Giuliani's has been back in a pretty steady decline. To win, he would also have to seriously distance himself from the RNC (or at least the Bush administration), which has become ridiculously unpopular in New York - but without their cash, I don't think he could do it.

Assuming she has presidential aspirations whistling.gif , I'd say, if she wins, it would make her a major contender in 2008; if she were to lose, it would have little impact on the aspirations, but would make winning a Democratic primary a bit more difficult.

I seriously doubt it.

I predict this race to be a possible landslipe for Rudy because of his crackdown on crime in NYC during his stint as Mayor & of his handling of 9/11

If she is beaten, she whould spend time bucking for the race for the white house

It might force her to back off fromthe senate race because rudy would beat her & she would head for the presidential seat

I wouldn't presume to the predict the results - Wertz and goamerica both make good points - but it would be a good race, and one I'd like to see. It has a good shot at derailing Hillary's momentum toward the presidency, and it'd make Guiliani a major player on the national scence, both of which would IMHO be all to the good.

Would it not be a useful weathervane to see which way the country is going? Do the big, populous states tend to lead political trends, or are they just different animals? I ask because I don't know, not for some rhetorical flourish.

laugh.gif Yeah, I'm sure Hillary is just shaking in her shoes about Rudy G. coming after her. Look, can he do any worse than Rick Lazio?

By the way, shouldn't this be of greatest interest to those America's Debate members from New York? They're the only ones who get a vote!

Please, Hilary Vs. Rudy. Not close, Rudy takes it easily. Sept. 11 is still fresh in the minds of NY, that's how Rudy is going to be remember. Now what has Hilary done for NY? Is she even from NY? New York is gonna want the familiar face of Rudy.

Rudy's close identification with NYC may be his weakness. A lot of people in the rest of the state see NYC as a drain that sucks all their tax dollars away and may feel he would focus too much on that cities needs over the rest of the state.

Good point. But upstate NY is also more conservative, and less pro-Hillary.

It would be an interesting race, to say the least.
