Sometimes described as mayor of Manhattan, billionaire Mayor Michael Bloomberg has problems relating to NYC citizens of the other four boroughs. For example, this past week there was a fund raiser for the families and victims of 9/11 that was broken up because of the presence of alcohol. There was no disruption in addition to making sure beforehand that the neighbors in the area consented to the function. The fundraiser was broken up by Mr. Bloomberg's thug police, and alcohol confiscated. Another funny twist is that a good number of those attending were themselves firefighters and police. Does bloombergs different social position present a problem with his ability to perform as mayor?

I think he is trying to make the city likeable again after 9/11 to improve her image and i don't think his position socially is a factor

My impression is he's kind of a jerk, and a RINO (Republican in Name Only), being a liberal Democrat who recently switched parties just to run for Mayor, but in both respects he seems well suited to NYC. I don't think he has been or will be a good Mayor but that's because he's a jerk, not because he's rich. Paul Allen is richer and he'd get along fine there, as would Warren Buffet.

I think Bloomberg's problem is that he's too shy and quiet in a city where a certain "edge" is expected. I used to do work at Bloomberg TV & Radio, and instead of a big office high up in the building, his desk was right in the middle of the newsroom accessible to everyone. His conference room also doubled as a studio, in fact it is where "Charlie Rose" is shot. This casual style is normal here in California, but not in New York.

Isn't it important, as mayor, to assimilate or at least be accepting of NYC culture (that of which is a product of the citizens) as long as it doesn't affect anyone negatively? How can someone improve the image of NYC after 9/11 when you conduct a raid on a 9/11 fundraising event? Doesn't make any sense.

I agree... He is trying to make the city of NY likeable. Because NY is a very bad city, he is trying to break up that bad city by calling in the police to seperate such alchol which is allegal.

Why is NYC a "bad city"? Or more bad than any other large city?

I find the turnabout here interesting. Earlier this summer, Bloomberg and City Hall were accused of sending police on a "ticket blitz" to enforce the more trivial laws on the books. Now these laws seem to be used against the police themselves. I wonder how that will play out.

New York is a "very bad city?" Sorry, but New York City is an awesome city. If you want to see a "very bad city," I suggest you take a trip to Tijuana, Mexico. That is a bad city.

Why does bloomberg get to enjoy alcohol outdoors while others don't?
