How would you describe an ideal conservative Democratic candidate? What would be the planks within their platform?

Some of my ideas:

Pro-life

Farm friendly policy

Less taxes

Thoughts? Ideas?

Sounds like a Republican. Maybe you should throw in Pro-labor.

Growing up in Kansas, and now living in Texas, I have seen Democrats like I describe. You are right, though, it is a more typical Republican profile. I have been considering either switching parties or simply registering "no party."

Growing up in Missouri and now living in Texas I know where you are coming from. Most individuals I know that are conservative Democrats remain so because they are pro-labor. There are a lot of blue-collar people who oppose abortion, hate welfare and higher taxes but are pro labor sometimes with a capital L.

Before 1998, I would have said I was STRONGLY pro-labor. That was the year I joined the NEA. After one year of paying sky-high dues to an organization that is diametrically opposed to what I believe in, I have tempered my pro-labor stance somewhat. I can not stand the NEA. They protect terrible teachers, and are about very little other than maintaining the status quo. Sorry about the rant!

My wife is a conservative Democrat. For her, it means that you want the government to keep a watchful eye on big business, but also, you want the government to actually expect an iota or two of personal responsibility from people.
