Bookstores are my favorite places, especially the ones that include a coffee shop.
The problem is that I'm spending too much money on books. Today I went to pick
up a gift card at Barnes & Nobels. I couldn't leave without at least looking around
and having a coffee, but I told myself I would not buy...just look.

But, buy I did. Three books.

Rich Dad's Prophecy (about retirement financing)

Where Peachtree Meets Sweet Auburn (Saga of two families , one black and one white & the making of Atlanta)

Voices Of Ireland (Classic Writings of a Rich and Rare Land)

I know I should use the library but.........

Does anyone else have this problem? What are you all reading? Any suggestions?

Book Factory Outlet all the way!!! This is a book resaler that is part of the local outlet mall here in Savannah. You can go in, spend $20 and come out with 5 books. It's great.

Last fiction I read (actually re-read) was "Brave New World."

I'm also working on getting through the Federalist Papers, from beginning to end. I've read many parts but never in order. I thought I outta.

I'm a pretty scatter-brained reader. I usually have at least 10 things I'm in the middle of - which is mostly due to my many magazine subscriptions and my never ending pursuit of the news.

Yes...It's an addiction, but I've accepted it as being a good thing. There's nothing like the smell and feel of a brand new book. I do patronize the library, though, specifically for foreign and independent films. The Denver library has an incredible selection of videos and DVDs. I would rather own my books. I don't know why. I suppose it's because I like to revisit them.

The last four books that I bought:

In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez - Highly Recommended
Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto - Not sure how I felt about this one
Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel - Next in line
Choke by Chuck Palahniuk - Currently reading, but it's good so far.

I never read fiction, but I do like to read.

What I read most people find boring. I like technical books.

I think the last three books I bought were a book about networks security, a history of Chicago blues, and a "Century" book that was listed for $50, but I picked it up for $10.

I get a lot of magazines, though.

That's it exactly!
I listened to "Kitchen." I'm usually hooked up to an audiobook, (from library) when doing housework or gardening. I read Like Water for Choc." some time ago and liked it. Saw the movie also, never as good as the book.

Jaime, Glad you mentioned Brave New World. I have that book in my pile of unread books. I had
forgotten about it.

I too, have several books going at one time. If I'm reading something complicated, I put it down ever
so often and read a short story or a mystery.

I guess I'll have to start visiting the used book section of the book stores once in awhile. I do find
some great buys at garage sales.

I started watching the movie version of Like Water for Chocolate, but I didn't care for it, which is why I decided to pick up the book. The book is almost always better than the movie. The only instance that I can think of that this wasn't true for me was with The Virgin Suicides. The book was good, but the film was brilliant.

I can think of another movie better than the book - Interview with a Vampire actually gave Anne Rice's antiquated writing life. I can't stand Anne Rice's writing style. It's too bad, too, because I love vampire stories.

I used to like Anne Rice a lot, but after revisiting one of her books recently, I was really disappointed. I think that the film for Interview was well done, although I didn't like the choice of actors for the characters, but that's just me. I hated the movie for Queen of the Damned though. There's never enough time in a movie to tell the whole story, and with that book, the history that was left out of the film was very important.

For new books, I use Internet bookstores (Amazon, BAMM, Buy, etc). I just can't find myself paying list price for books, unless I need the book right away (which is rare).

For used books, I love garage sales.

The library is a great resource of course. Right now I'm listening to The Perfect Storm on audiotape.

Just finishing a good book on audio cassette. Empire Falls, which is a blue collar small town in the heart of the country, by Richard Russo.
