How do you know it was just Ak's and M-16's? These guys, for 4 hours, fought for their lives. They probably had a few RPG's with grenades along with them.

Thus far the reports I have seen only detail the four as having a few hand grenates and their automatic weapons. I have seen no mention of RPGs or other artillery outside of that, though I suppose more information could later come out.

The pictures I have seen looks like a house rather than a fortress. It was two stories without many rooms, though a frontal view can be deceiving considering the large columns and overhang above the front door.

That and they would have probably escaped, inviting major hate towards us for letting them go & that would sink the morale of the troops and us here in the states to a new low.

Four people -- one a cripple and the other a teenager -- would not have escaped from a house surrounded by some 200 soldiers supported by "heavy weaponry and assault helicopters."

Prior to use of the TOW missiles soldiers had already knocked in the front door, pulling back only after realizing access to the top floor was barricaded. The information that has currently been released doesn't seem to justify the artillery used if ever there had been any interest in capturing the Hussein brothers alive.

Doesn't anyone understand that we are facing armed dangerous maniacs who have vowed to never surrender and fight til their last breath? The only thing about this operation that surprised me in the least was that the bodies were in any shape at all to be identified. Had I been in charge of the mission the entire building would have been leveled before my men even considered entering.

It sounds to me as if some of us still haven't learned that you don't go into battle unless you are willing and able to use overwhelming force. Unless of course you're secretly hoping to lose.

I wonder why they we're killed at all....I mean, the way I see it, Bush's credibility is lagging....why didn't our troops wait it out? If anyone knew about these WMD - these two would've known. They were clearly outnumbered (two hundred against four). If anyone knew about the whereabouts of Saddam, these two would've known.

Why we're we in such a hurry to have these two dead? Did they know something?

Kinda makes you think............

So now we killed them to shut them up. Because they might say...what? "My daddy's nicer than your daddy". Give me a break will ya.

Please, please tell me this isn't the kind of thinking liberals will take with them to work if they ever win back the presidency.

So you can definitively say that we didn't kill them to shut them up? You seem to be dealing out a lot of flak over a simple theory. Could you provide some reasoning behind your opposition to it rather than just dismissing it?

They wouldn't have told us. They'd rather die as martyrs and meet Satan then face US interoggation to root out their father or the location of WMD if any

It seems to me the implication behind what they might say was in relation to the missing WMDs, not in regards to whose daddy was nicer. happy.gif

As opposed to pulling the flag over our eyes and bumbling, stumbling our way through one mess after another? dry.gif

Will the strikes against US troops lessen? What does their capture/death mean on the war in Iraq?

They don't appear to be lessening as a result of their deaths, and in fact there are those who have vowed increased attacks. And, as we have been touching on the last couple posts, with the speculation now set aside, their deaths definately mean we won't be asking them about the location of any WMDs or the locations of any resistance fighters in the region.

I'm very thankful that these two guys were taken out and not captured. The hand-wringing that would have ensued if they were being held captive would have been unbearable. That would have also served to paint them as martyrs in the minds of some Iraqis, while keeping the fear alive in many others that htey might somehow return to power. That thought wouldn't be so far-fetched in their minds if you can imagine the noise some in this country would be making.

There is no crime in confronting evil and taking it out by any means necessary. This battle in Iraq would be over so much sooner if all the whining and political pot-shots would end. Especially the stuff being put out in the media. Showing a closely united front to the remaining enemy would shorten the aftermath of this conflict and speed the recovery.
