Several years ago I dreamt my brother was in the hospital. I remember walking through the door of his room. The lights were dimmed and my brother was in bed writhing in pain. I felt helpless.

He looked at me, tears in his eyes and said, “I am hurting so bad. Please get me something for pain - help me.”

When I awoke, the dream seemed so real. I called my mother and asked if my brother was OK. He was – until about 2 months later when I received a call that he was in the hospital – with a kidney stone. When I got to the hospital, there he was, in a dark room, in pain. The feeling a déjà vu was the strongest I have ever experienced.

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Recently, I was approached to move into a new position at work. I love the position I was in and the anxiety over the decision was distracting. As I left the office to go on vacation a few weeks ago, I was asked to think about it and give my decision when I returned.

I asked myself so many questions. Could I perform the tasks required of this job? Sure, I had worked in research and development before but not as the program manager. Could I make the right policy decisions? Could I be as effective there as I was in my current position?

When I returned from vacation, I was once again pressured for an answer. I asked for the rest of that week to make the decision. Then, one night I had a dream.

I was in an 85’Corvette (I know this because I own one). I was driving the vette along a mountainous winding road. I was having problems shifting the gears. Driving the car seemed foreign to me.

Behind me was a GTO. It was a beautiful car, strong and powerful. I could see the sun bouncing off the freshly waxed paint job. I admired the car from my rearview mirror.

As I drove up the hill, there was a sharp curve that headed back downhill and as I got closer I decided that I couldn’t make the curve. Ahead I saw a rest stop and knew that if I could get there I could turn the car around and take the curve at a different angle.

As I looked in the rearview mirror, I saw the GTO, waiting for me at the curve. It wasn’t going down the curve until I did. I headed into the rest area, turned the car around and headed back toward that curve. That’s where the dream ended.

The next day I went to work. Throughout the day I thought about the dream. It kept hanging with me like one of those annoying songs that gets caught in your mind. Suddenly it hit me.

The vette represented the job that was being offered. My dream was telling me that I could do what was required. It was telling me that I would have a lot of hills to climb and some sharp curves to maneuver, but I could find a way.

The GTO represented the job I was occupying at the time. The dream was telling me that the new position I was being offered would still be influential to that position - they would still follow my lead.

I found peace and made a decision – through a dream.

These are just two examples of the many dreams I have had that have predicted a future event or helped me make a decision.

I believe dreams are a way for the subconscious to talk to us, to help us make decisions. I also think that some people are gifted with the ability to see the future through dreams.

What about you? Have you any dreams you’d like to sell...

I have had a few recurring dreams over the years, with the same basic theme.
Basically, I had done something for a long time, such as attending Navy Reserve drills for 9 years, and when I retired and stopped going I dreamt that I kept attending drills and kept getting paid even though I wasn't supposed to. Similar dream about a job I once had for about 5 years, dreamed about not doing it properly, and it was a very responsible job (Reactor Operator, no fooling around on that kind of job). So, in both cases, I was doing something wrong, and in both cases the dreams persisted for several years.
I think that is what happens when you get too old to dream about sex. sleep.gif

I've fixed bugs in my sleep on at least two occasions that I can remember. In both cases I went to bed thinking about possible causes, stepping through code in my head, etc....then woke up hours later with an extremely clear idea of where the problem was and how to fix it. It's similar to experiences I've had while awake, snapping out of a trance-like state with the buggy code on the screen in front of me, totally unable to recall any chain of reasoning that led me to look at that one fragment among thousands. It's a bit creepy sometimes, like having someone else hijack my brain for a while.

I think my favorite dream involved Cheryl Ladd and a hottub. It's been 25 years but I still remember it.

The dreams I have are usually prophetic though not "important." (Yet.)

But 99% of the time there are no dreams remembered.

I wish I had were dreaming a bit more often right now but I'm not... tarot cards are pretty fun (and generally accurate).

Olympia.
