Remove women and replace that word with blacks, christians, gays, young, old, or the disabled.  Sounds like discrimination to me!

Would replacing women with one of the other groups you suggested bring in a large group of paying customers? I don't think so.

This is not simply giving women free drinks because the bars feel sorry for them . . . it's a marketing ploy to attract men into the bars.

IMO it's borderline discriminatory to use women as sex objects to lure the men in, but won't make that argument since women have to make their own decisions and some are fine trading in the allurement of their presence for a couple of free drinks. I think it analogous to something like Playboy. Would you say that it discriminates against men because it's mainly women who are paid to be photographed for the magazine?

I don't want race and age discrimination. However, I was raised to show older people respect and appreciate what they've accomplished in their lives. I like the fact that someone is willing to give my Grandmother a discount. She raised 12 children by herself. She worked around the clock to make sure that they were clothed, fed, went to school and attended church. She raised them to be responsible adults in a time where there wasn't any shelter that she could have fled to and no government aid to assist her. She did it by herself with the Grace of God. What's more amazing is that even after her children were grown. She devoted her life to her grandchildren. She made each of us feel special, loved and wanted. I personally feels she deserves a few dollars in her pocket.

I'm not bothered by senior citizen's discounts either -- it doesn't feel discriminatory to me.

I only know one senior who is better off than I am. Most are struggling to live on low incomes with high health care costs.

Potentially, we'll all be seniors one day, so it's not like the majority of us won't benefit from them one way or the other.

I also agree with above comments stating that this is just another way to market a business, just as sale prices on specific items are used to bring in people who want those items.

IMO I think overall it's a bit nit-picky to feel discriminated against for not getting a senior discount or a ladies' night. These are really minor things in the grand scheme of things. I think it's more important to focus on discrimination on hiring practices, income, and opportunities. Things that really affect the quality of life for most people.

NOTE: CLOSED due to age. Thank you to all who participated. smile.gif
