More than a few of you probably change the channel when the commercials come on during the show you were watching. What are commercials you don't change the channel for, that you enjoy watching? I particularly like the Snicker's commercials - having worked at an amusement park, I think the Barky the Dog commercial is the funniest I've ever seen. The SUV commercial for Snicker's Cruncher is amusing, too.

p.s. edited to change "Sparky" to "Barky" - my bad, thanks goamerica

The AFLAC commercials with the duck, particularly the one with Yogi.

I love that one too

"Are you really Barky the dog?"
"Barky's a cartoon. I'm a grown man who's made alot of mistakes"

The one with Yao Ming and Yogi...(VISA, I think)

Hilarious.

Yo (points to the sign)
Yao (point to himself)

I like the Geiko (sp?) commercials.

The one with the car swerving to miss the squirrels who do the high five afterwards.

I also like the one with the inmate who walks into the visiting room and his lawyer is on the phone giving him the 'thumbs up' and tells him he just got some great news. 'I'm outta here?' the inmate asks. "No, I just saved a ton of money on my car insurance" the lawyer says, patting him on the shoulder. BAHHAHAAA. laugh.gif

I don't know why but that one cracks me up. tongue.gif

I like the Sparky one too. wink2.gif

The Sprint PCS commercials are usually pretty good. The one with the 2 teenage girls wrestling over the phone is great. And I like the one where the guy mistakenly brings home Charro (SP?)

There was one a while back that I liked. I can't even remember what it was advertising, but I think it was fabric softener. It showed a sunny field with flowers and the grim reaper riding a bike to the song that goes...What a day for a daydream.... It always gave me a bit of a chuckle. smile.gif

sad.gif we don't get commercials on the military network overseas sad.gif - I was in the states in March/April visiting family and was SO tempted to bring back an entire video full of commercials for my husband - he loves commercials (always has).

The ones I really enjoyed while I was home:

The same one Cyan mentioned with the grim reaper riding the bike through a field of flowers. cracked me up.

The Pepsi or Coke commercial with Chico and the Empanadas from mom, were the guy you initially *think* is Chico reads the note from mom and eats the empanadas, only to find out he's Chico's roommate biggrin.gif - cute commercial

The "got chocolate milk" commercial with the two guys who go into a tent where a guy is literally frozen solid and shaking and put the chocolate milk containers into his hands so they'll be nicely shaken......bwaaaaaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaa

These aren't new or necessarily even current:

I always LOVED the Southwest Airlines/NFL commercials (maybe they'll bring 'em back now that it's football season biggrin.gif), particularly the one with the woman in the shoe store flinging her shoe (or something) as if she's kicking a field goal biggrin.gif - those commercials are hilarious

The Nike "rhythm" commercial with Jason Kidd and Jason Williams and others bouncing the ball and stepping to a create a beat. The drummer/dancer in me just LOVES that commercial smile.gif

ALL PGA commercials (they are stinking funny!)

ALL Air Force commercials - I don't know if they air in the states on regular TV (all of them) or not, but there's one with the "All through the night" song playing in the background" while we're looking at a family...turns out the family is really a picture a pilot has with him in the cockpit...I also LOVE the one where the plane has one of those "like my flying? call 1-800-XXX-XXXX" things on it...very clever biggrin.gif

The Tiger Woods commercials where he's bouncing the ball around on his club and such...and then one with some sort of car on the green and maybe some elderly folks? can't remember that second one for sure, so maybe I'm imagining it?!?!

And from WAY long ago, I always loved the Whiskas commercials with the little talking bird "read my beak....no more birds" biggrin.gif - too cute

ESPN has some really funny commercials about their staff/news team smile.gif I particularly like the one with Stackhouse making fun of Trey Wingo's name...so silly

There are two commercials I always remember as impressionable,
to the song forever young by Rod Stewart they had shots of animals with cubs and other young scampering around and at the end it just said, Pampers. It was beautiful. It showed for a very short time I dont know why they took it off.
The other isnt really a commercial but its a black and white piece on AIDS that just shows children doing differenet things in sort of an abandoned world, there are no adults or cars, it looks like eveything died off except them and they are washing clothes in a river and cutting each others hair and stuff like that. Its a remarkably well done piece.

Of course I like the Barky too, sometimes I feel like Barky when I deal with the public, I love the Geico one with the toy creatures, and also the Nike commercial with the African runner who says,' I dont need these shoes, maybe you do.'

In Spain every year they have a compilation of the best commercials around the world that show in movie theatres on loop run for like 24 hrs and you can go in at anytime. Since they allow condom commercials and a lot more explicite stuff on Tv these can be really funny.
I remember one that showed Margaret Thatcher's, Hitler's and Stalin's parents and said, 'Dont you wish they had Durex condoms'.

The American commercials we get over here are usually for the huge pan-global brands like Coca Cola or Gilette. These are usually deliberately bland, so that they translate into all markets without having to take account of the local sense of humour (e.g. fart gags for the Germans, nudity for the French, self-deprecation for the Brits, etc.), so we rarely get to see any of the good quality USA commercials here.

Exceptions are the occasional compilation TV programme that shows funny and/or interesting commercials from around the world, but even then the US ones we see are rarely from current campaigns.

Do you have similar TV shows about world TV commercials in the USA?

Julian, I have seen several commercial compilations on American television. Usually, they are themed, though. For example, one program that I saw merely dealt with international commericals that were a bit risque' by American standards.
Aquilla
My favorite all time commercial is from quite a long time ago. It starts out with this snow blizzard scene in the middle of no where and pretty soon a lone VW bug goes driving down the road. The announcer then comes on and says, "Did you ever wonder how the man who drives the snowplow gets to work in the morning?" smile.gif
Kanyeshnah
I like the Progressive commercial where the guy pushes his kid into the pool in his attempt to get to the quarter way at the bottom! The kid even lets out a little yelp.. that's hilarious! biggrin.gif
Kanyeshnah
Another commercial I also really like is the Toyota "Cog" one that aired in England where it starts with the little cog rolling and ends with the car rolling down the little ramp to pull the sign down. I saw it on the internet but I forgot the website! crying.gif

That commercial was made without any trick photography or computer tricks but it did take two studios to film (it makes it seem that the whole amazing scene was filmed in one studio).
Danya
I like the new Pop Tart one with the scary ice monster tells the kids they taste good frozen and the kids scream and then the monster screams. Cute. biggrin.gif
Momof3
I think one of the funniest commercials out now is for a brand of paper towels. It shows a kid shaking a 2 liter bottle of pop and it explodes and gets his mother. His face is so funny and they she yells Jimmy what are you doing? She then procedes to say this works much better and sprays him with the hose form the kitchen sink. I laugh everytime I see the commercial but for the life of me I couldn't tell you which Brand of paper towels. wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif

Ha ha my channel 5 had Trey Wingo first. tongue.gif He was our sports anchorman for KDSK Channel 5 *NBC Affiliate* Anyway onto my favorite commericals:

Although when I was young it scared me to eat eggs for fear that I was eating my brain, the "here's your brain...here's your brain on drugs..any questions" always strikes me as funny.

"Barky the dog" has to be one of the funniest commericals I have seen in a while.

Anyone remember the Panda doing the Snickers commericals? The hungry hungry panda or something to that effect? He danced around and they would say "I would like to go to lunch! Me too!" -as far as remembering the rest I'm seriously racking my brain over here and coming up with the first two lines. However I know it was a Panda dancing in an office. That was funny stuff!

I know there is a commerical circulating around here for Charter Communications (my cable company which I absolutely LOVE!). It's a guy dressed up as a satellite dish sitting on top of a roof and the owners are like... "It's ugly!" the dish is like " I heard that!"... but the really funny one is where these two kids are sitting there and the one says to the dish "You can do high speed internet right?" and dish is like "I need about $500 extra for equiptment, a second phone line and a third network provider and I'm not as fast as cable but that's a great idea" - they're really funny if you have watched them.

That is one of my favorites! I cannot believe I forgot it.

It goes something like this:

"Pretty pretty panda, pretty pretty dancing". And the guy is standing outside of either a conference room or the office lunch room with a picture of a panda and he's moving the panda around to make it "dance"...then he says something like "pandas eat bamboo!". That is stinking funny!!!!! My sister and I LOVED that commercial and we'd sing the "pretty pretty panda" song all the time. Well at one point I changed my AOL buddy icon to a dancing panda just because of that commercial biggrin.gif - hilarious!

I'm happy someone else remembers it! Everytime I tried to think of the last part of the commercial Barbie Girl would break into my head. Who knows where my head is these days! Anyway, very funny commercial.
Danya
What about those body soap commercials that say, "You're not as clean as you think you are." I love the one where the guy dives into the public pool and surfaces just in time to miss the kid in the waterwings say, "Mommy, I don't have to go to the bathroom anymore!" laugh.gif

I don't know which soap it is...Dial maybe.
Jaime
I love the chewy granola bar commercials. It starts with a series of kids saying VERY PERSONAL things about their relatives. The gimmick is that the relative should give the kid a granola bar to shut them up. The message is pretty awful when you think about it, but the stuff the kids say about their relatives is hilarious. biggrin.gif

Nwo that the football season has started up again, my favorite football commercials are on...the ones with the "You know it is Football season" ones. Love em.

A couple of examples:

Courtroom full of people. Baliff says "all rise". Everyone does the wave.

Another one:

Camera shows a guy with a cart grocery shopping. Then, shows a register guy opening an aisle. The register guy says "Open over here". The guy with the cart reaches into the cart, takes a pineapple, and throws it at the regiester guy like a football, hitting the unsuspecting clerk. laugh.gif

Jaime:

Love that one. one kid says "We don't pay for cable"...rofl
Curmudgeon
Bob Dole had been doing a series of commercials for Viagra...

He was pictured on a beach doing cartwheels or something like that, and said he got the energy from his favorite blue something... I was expecting it to be another commercial for Viagra of course, but it was a Pepsi Ad. laugh.gif

There are a lot of commercials out there that leave me wondering it anyone has asked a simple question. "Will this ad actually sell our product, or will it drive people to the competition?"

I am so tired of "Can you hear me now?" that I have thought of using it as a message on the answering machine.

There's a series of phone company commercials demonstrating what can happen if you change gardeners, plumbers, and by inference, phone companies. Okay, I won't switch my service to your company...
Paladin Elspeth
I like the Comcast commercial.

Two very attractive young women are sitting on a sofa at a party. They are suddenly flanked by two very nerdy guys who say they really like to party.

One of the young women picks up the remote control and clicks it to the TV program schedule. She finds STAR TREK and clicks it to that channel. Kirk and Spock are talking with each other on the screen.

The two nerds watch the television with fascination while the two women slip away, unnoticed. cool.gif
unabomber
one of my current favorites is the one where the kids are playing soccer in the park after school, and a middle aged women is pushng a stroller. the kids hit the ball near the sidewalk shes on and the ball rolls near her. she bends down and picks it up and takes off with it the kids all look a little baffled huh.gif blink.gif and then the kids all start chasing her. laugh.gif laugh.gif (a voice then says: after school programs; if you're not helping them, you're helping to take them away)
