I think what cost Carolina the is the fact that the coach did not run down the clock before kicking the ball back for the Pats final drive. Even with the bad kick it would have taken it to OT which was Carolina best hope. Even if they had made the two extra points they still would have lost by one.

If they had made both extra points they would have had 31. Furthermore New England would not have gone for the two point conversion that they converted successfully. Both teams would have ended up with 31.
