As you likely have noticed I am very new to this site.

After registering, reading the help screens and other major threads on forum functionality I began to navigate around the site and noticed that any attempt to view my own profile or the member list resulted in a message the the menu has been disabled.

I didn't think too much of this as I thought maybe viewing the member list was something only more senior members had authority to do although I could find no such reference in any of the documentation I had read.

Then today I recieved the same message when attempting to use the new posts hyperlink located at the top of the main forum page.

I am logged in as I am able to post but am wondering if the problems I'm experiening are local to my userid or if they are global to the site.

Any insight is appreciated.

Iinteresting.

After posting the above remark the view new posts function did not return the error that the menu was disabled but rather returned my above post .

Still receiving the menu disabled message when attempting to access the member list.

*shrug*

Hi. I can answer your questions.

We do not permit new members to see this information immediately upon registering. We have set up a low minimum criteria that each member must meet prior to viewing these details.

While we do not disclose the specifics on what criteria must be met in order to see this information, I can assure you that members with true interest in participating here exceed the criteria in less than a week. As a matter of fact, most members exceed the requirement on the first day.

You can determine if the restricted functions are available to you by looking at one of your own posts. Your member group is listed directly under your name, and will change from "New Members" to "Members" once the criteria have been met.

The "View New Posts" link is part of the search feature, and there are no restrictions in place for the search feature.

What likely happened is that there were no new posts since your last visit, so clicking "View New Posts" returned the following error:

Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show.

Let me know if further explanation is necessary.

Thanks,

Thanks for the clarification as I was a bit dumfounded because I did not come across any reference to new member restrictions while browsing the rules and guidelines and the other pertinent threads on the subject.

I fully understand the logic behind such a policy and thank your for explaining this to me.

Likely you are correct in describing the message I received when clicking the new posts feature as I'm still working on my first cup of coffee.

Thanks again.
