Do they represent the vast majority of conservatives out? Or are they tools being used to sway people in to a certain mindset?

The reason that I ask is that I live in an incredibly conservative part of the Country (NE Florida) and I have been listening to them on the radio during my drive and I have noticed that the more I actually listen to what they are saying (or not saying in some regards) it seems to me that they do not have plans of action, but do nothing but spout off about who to blame for the problems in the world. They do a good job of using the word liberal at any chance to associate it to a negative action or plan. But I can honestly say that I have never heard them once come out with an actual plan to solve anything (as opposed to the really idiotic plans that they even say will never happen, then atribute that to liberals keeping them down from doing the smart thing).

People are going to hear and believe what they want to based on their political leanings, and the extent of them.
I for instance don't care to listen to Rush, his voice annoys me, he tends to blather on and on, and he throws in a lot of unneeded theatrics. But I do agree with him in many ways.
I personally listen to Neal Boortz for his common sense approach to politics and his Libertarian views.
When you say that they do nothing but spout off about who to blame for the problems in the world, never heard them once come out with an actual plan to solve anything. This is different from liberals how??
Seriously, if you're a liberal and listening to a liberal host, you are more inclined to agree with them and visa-versa. Of course I've lost count how many times I've heard liberals refer to talk radio ad 'hate radio'. Which reinforces my belief that many liberals are proponents of free speech as long as you agree with them.
Conservative hosts may indeed have portrayed 'liberal' as a dirty word. But I contrast that with left leaning hosts that I have heard constantly referring to the right as 'nazi's and fascists, and the president as 'chimp, shrub, resident, etc..

I have not read of any evidence that certain hosts are bought off by either political party, certainly some could be seen as mouthpieces, but there's no crime in that, if you don't like, don't tune in.

okay, let me explain a little further... this is all radio hosts in general... not just conservative voices... but by listening to right wing conservatives since that is was I am innundated with out here, I was using them as an example. But really, do they embody the 'conservative values that people are suppose to follow if they believe they are real conservatives?

Yes, liberal radio is no better, it seems that we have gotten away from fixing problems, to who do we blame for the problems.

Radio hosts are entertainers or information brokers, nothing more, nothing less.

Don't expect a radio host to solve the world's problems. If they were willing (or able) to do that, then they wouldn't be on the radio, they would be doing something productive...

One of Rush Limbaugh's standing jokes is about journalism students who, when asked why they want to become journalists say "So I can make a difference in the world". Rush's spiel then goes on about how journalists have no impact on the world and that their role is simply to report on stories. If you wanted to help the world, volunteer or start a charity or something.

Everyone should listen to any information they receive with an open mind. Being a sponge for conservative radio shows is not productive. If you take what they say, combine it with other information, and THEN make a decision you will be a lot better off...

I couldn't agree with Amlord more. Remember, its just a business. Whether its talk radio or cable news, their money comes from the advertisers. If you can't get ratings then you don't get high paying advertisers. Entertainment, shock, and gossip are all attention getters employed by profitable media to get ratings. Many people tune in because they love it. us.gif
