Well, for all the Cali folk out there...anyone who watched wanna talk about the debates last night? Even Non-Cali folk's input is welcomed.

just an observation: I cringe at Arianas's voice sour.gif And did she think that she was on the Bill Maher show? hmmm.gif

Question to Cali folks: which issues are near and dear to your hearts? Which of these candidates, assuming you'll be voting, speaks to the issues most important to you?

Issues that i care about:

Budget - balance the thing... without raping my wallet
Immigration control - keep those out who shouldn't be here
taxes - lower spending, so i don't have to pay you as much
car taxes - see above
workers comp - it is killing business around here, and thus jobs (my employer pays almost two million dollars a year in workers comp, and we aren't exactly huge)

There are of course other issues, but we need the above issues to be addressed soon, once they are addressed, then perhaps we can get to others.

I think Mclintock has the clearest plan and ability to address these issues quickly. Arnold might be able to do something about them, but his plans are not as clear, nor does he have experience with the state legislature to get any laws or reforms past.
Bustamante's plan of taxation boosting, especially amoungst businesses, does not appeal to me in the slightest, nor do i think it will do anything except drive more businesses out of the state.

So, my vote goes towards Mclintock first, but i will vote for arnold if everything swings that way... anything to keep bustamante out.

side note: arianna should be gagged or something. she got waaay too much air time for a person with less than 3% of the poll support

haha Quane, I agree with you about Ariana.

Also the green party candidate...that was the first I've heard of him. Interesting person.

the issues that I care about:

Car tax!
cost to me would be $600 more per year. Arnold, Tom would repeal it.

Immigration.
Licences to illegals is dangerous in the climate the US is in right now and just on a moral basis, it is not fair. Arnold, Tom are against this. Prop 187. Arnold in favor.

Taxes.
Prop 13 being amended. Favored by Busti, Ariana and Cameyo.
many of the coastal (within maybe 5 miles from coast) property owners would be taxed out of their homes if they were taxed what the REAL cost of this property may be. Maybe not William Buffet but certainly

Education.
27th in the nation. why? mad.gif

Infrastructure, energy, water.
we NEED better and more affordable public transportation. The trolley system to Downtown works well. The coaster from SD to oc is expensive for the average rider. Building more freeways is not the answer.

revamping workmans comp and other business un-friendly laws.
Arnold seems to be the champion of this. There is a need for a more friendly compromise to both business and labor.

Women's right to choose.
Tom is pro-life.

As a slightly conservative voter, Tom is just a bit too conservative for me. Ariana leans too much too the left IMO. Cameho used the debate last night to do a little anti-iraq grandstanding. That turned me off. He's not running for President. Too much of a socialist IMO.
Busti, is the status quo. forget him.

Arnold very well might get this voters vote.

Well, i have heard some talk show hosts throwing around an idea today, but i don't think it will fly:

Arnold offers a head position to Tom in his cabinet or even vice governor. thus sealing in the confidence of the fiscal conservatives, and appeasing those who think tom is too conservative. i doubt it will happen, but i think it is probably the best way to resolve this split. Arnold puts a good looking moderate face on things, and Tom helps shove things through the state legislature.

No one is muscled out, except perhaps bustamante.

I would like to see that.

Tom is a good solid candidate to be sure and would do much to enhance Arnold's Governorship if elected.

I'm not quite sure where he is in the polls but if he can put ego aside (that's what he'd have to do) and do what's best for California by stepping down and accepting a position with Arnie...then they can't be beat.

Iwatched part of the debate and thought the format was cheesy. Even with the questions being presented to the candidates ahead of time Arnold failed to meet my already low expectations of his ability to project an informed and polished strategy for moving California in a better direction. It sounded like gaffe and quip time to me.
