Sorry - I meant to mention this in advance, but today was National Talk Like Bill O'Reilly Day. Did anyone celebrate it?

I'd got a bit of e-mail about this several days ago and saw it mentioned in a few blogs (I think it was organized by Media Whores Online), but I'd forgot about it till I got into work today and got another reminder through Outlook.

Anyway, we had great fun at work - it was basically an excuse to tell anyone and everyone to "SHUT UP! SHUT UP!" and not let anyone complete a sentence. (And God help anyone who tried to express an opinion.) I was surprised how much mileage we got out of it. laugh.gif

Was anyone else aware of this? Did anyone else observe the day?

Coincidentally (and totally unrelated as far as I can tell), last Friday was International Talk Like a Pirate Day (it's even got a web site). Is this some kind of trend?

I noticed that, Grendel - and was shocked. Shocked.

And would someone unplug Mrs. P's mike?

This is the funniest thread I've read on AD so far......I'm sorry I missed out on what could've been my favorite day of the year...... whistling.gif
NiteGuy
I missed out too. Not that it would have done any good. I was off today, and at home by myself for much if it. It would have been pretty bizarre to keep telling myself to quit spinning comments and shut up! laugh.gif

Wertz, before you go any further I want to tell you that the reason nobody knows is because Blogs are midless droning and they have no affect on the political climate of America. Making fun of Bill O'rielly only puts you down at his leve... no, shut up, I'll let you have the last word but let me talk, I believe... shut up, I said I'd let you have the last word........

The Bill O'Reilly 21 Spin Tips will make you a pro in no time. mrsparkle.gif
Amlord
O'Reilly consistently gives his opponent the last word...

What say you?
Passion51
I'm a bit surprised that any card-carrying liberal would have even the slightest idea of how to imitate O'Reilly. Afterall, he makes sense and doesn't suffer spin tactics very well. Reasoned debate means sticking to the point at hand, and answering the questions posed. When his guests try to wander off into the land of lala liberal avoidance then he slaps 'em down. If they try to tip-toe thru the tulips with their immoral rants, he puts them in their place.

All in all, he's represents the majority view in America. And thank God for that!

Yes, that's exactly how O'Reilly runs his show... rolleyes.gif

Please, the caricature of O'Reilly that seems to be popular in some circles is so far from the truth that it's hardly worth consideration. I watch the show regularly, I listen to the radio regularly. "Shut up" are extremely rare words on both...

As I think everyone who actually watches the show some knows... dry.gif

I just thought I'd say that I like The O'reilly Factor much better than I like Al Fraken's show. hmmm.gif Hmmmn, he doesn't have one come to think of it. That's probably because no one wants to hear Stuart Smalley crying about the Bush Administration laugh.gif . It seems to me that Al Franken is a lot like the nerd that came back to shoot the bully, only the gun was a book and it wasn't loaded.

What I will admit is that it is funny to see Bill get so upset over this giant 5 year old crying infront of America laugh.gif .

That reminds me, has anyone seen my card? I usually keep it in my wallet next to my voter registration card listing my party as CPUSA and my ACLU card and my I Hate America So So Much card and my Anti-Freedom Club card and my BurnAmericaBurn card and my 9/11-was-the-Greatest-Day-Ever card. I think I got it mixed up with your Everyone-Left-of-Center-is-a-Dirty-Commie-and-Deserves-to-Die card, Passion.

Ok, lest anyone read to much into that, the above was satire...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Hardly, my poor misguided comrade. Bill O'Reilly represents the Bill O'Reilly view and nothing more.

Well, now I wouldn't say that... shifty.gif

O'Reilly has the top rated primetime cable news show. He quite a fan base. On many of the issues, he even has me as a fan. wink2.gif

I would say that O'Reilly is pretty representative of the majority of informed Americans as commentators go. He certainly has more force behind him than simply himself. If that were it, I should have my own show... w00t.gif

What makes Bill O'Reilly different than Paul Begala and especially James Carville...nothing, except Bill's conservative...hmmm. hmmm.gif

You forgot something, his arguments are usually more coherent... laugh.gif

Just how many times can these two say "Cheney, or Halliburton" in a sentence

NuMarx,

The reason nobody believes for a second that liberals and communists love America us.gif , is because they're always complaining about her. They sit around constantly talking about how bad things are here and how she's run by a bunch of rich greedy people, While Conservatives and Republicans in general are always talking about how great America is, despite any short comings that we are not oppossed to examining, just not under a leftist's dirty microscope. I might also see fit to add that Americans us.gif who love America us.gif support her troops and mean it, it's not just a tag line we throw on at the end of a paragraph where we've filibustered for 10 minutes on what a dirty empire we are. We don't get in bed with european countries just to satisfy the likes of france (believe me the french don't speak for the rest of Europe, let alone the rest fo the world) and we aren't communists.

peace and capitalism be with you.... us.gif JL

edited for grammar...as usual laugh.gif

So I'm a day late....

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, our Talking Points Memo of the Day. Talking Points is issuing a challenge. Yes, a challenge. To Mr. Fair and Balanced himself, Bill O'Reilly.

There are some in the left wing media that insist you are a biased jerk, Mr. O'Reilly. They insist you are a loud-mouthed spin doctor for your network. Talking Points wishes to issue you a challenge to join America's Debate and prove those blind sheep in the liberal media WRONG. Talking Points challenges you, Bill O'Reilly, to debate in a civil, constructive fashion.

Talking Points would like to remind Mr. O'Reilly that contrary to his regular practices and motus operandi personal attacks, blanket statements and unsupported opinions are not allowed and are considered SPIN. Talking Points believes that Mr. O'Reilly's lack of backbone will be confirmed by his refusal to accept this challenge.

So, Mr. O'Reilly do you have a backbone? Will you accept our challenge? Or will you hide in your Comfort, I mean, No-Spin, Zone?

And that's the end of today's Talking Points memo.

<insert smug expression here>

This was fun, thanks Wertz smile.gif

Come on now Jaime smile.gif leave my man Bill alone. It is a talking point memo. Scarbourough [Spelling? Sorry Joe] does the same thing. Bill will ask straight up questions and if you don't answer them, he'll chew you up. Simple as that.

Leave him alone? He eats stuff like this up. Don't tell me he wouldn't like this attention.

So what do you think, Pat? Think he could cut it at AD or do you think he'd be banned within a week?

I think he'd get along pretty well actually. He's pretty independent so he won't get speared by those who like to torture ideologues (who might that be? devil.gif ) His arguments usually have reasoning behind them (not purely generalizations). He does have more of a tendency to anger than I'd like, but not off the scale, really.

He'd be an above-average, if not quite exemplary, member. If you're reading this, Bill, consider joining carefully, you know it's the right thing to do innocent.gif

I would challenge all the "big" names to join us "lowly" citizens here. it would give us a chance to find out where they really stand, and how well they can defend real arguments in a debate where they dont control the shut off switch.
for example, i would love to see people like Glenn Beck, Micheal Savage, O'rielly... etc... all these guys who know it all... join us here.

it would also increase the popularity of AD immensely:

"Savage on americas debate earlier..... orielly retorts against wertz.... Beck shot down by (fill in your name)..."

though i dont think any of them would risk the shot to their salary pumped ego's.

Interesting...I'm listening to O'Reilly's radio show right now and he just told a caller, "Don't personally attack him (James Carville), attack the issues." Maybe, Mr. O took us up on the challenge...or perhaps is lurking? huh.gif w00t.gif
QuaneCorsair
well, i just sent a letter of challenge and invitation to Glenn Beck. everyone pick a host and send a letter inviting them to check out and perhaps join us here at Americas Debate.

if it hasent already been done, someone e-mail:

O'rielly
Savage
Rush
whoever you respect

I want to see if we can get even one "great mind" to defend his/her positions on this forum.

Hey, I wouldn't be so sure that one of those people isn't already here on AD, hey, for all you guys know, I could be O'Reily shifty.gif you are now exiting a no spin zone.

How about we not send letters to these people?

The large volume of traffic and attention placed on the site by a high profile talking head would put a large financial burden on our operating budget. Actually, it would bankrupt us.

We just can't afford it right now.

Please don't send your letters to talking heads.

If anything, send your letters to your representatives in the House and the Senate. Encourage them to participate. That is a much better, more feasible option at this time.

Thanks,

Mike
