Only my second attempt at threading a Topic. Simple AND concise I hope.

I remember my brother dumping a bit of steak into my glass of coke. His idea was to prove to me that "coke eats meat" thus proving to me that everytime I drank coke my "guts" were being eaten. As I watched the steak dissolve I become instantly traumatized wacko.gif

next morning, steak was gone. Mean brother was right. Coke ate meat and surely my guts were next.

To this day I prefer Pepsi.

Which do you prefer?

Well, after having some serious cramps after a cross-country run, I've been winged off conventional sodas. To this day, its water or nothing!

....and maybe a little coke.
SoCaliente_1
actually I'm with you BH. it's all about water.

But sometimes you just HAVE to have that little sting, that sweet-ice-cold-brain-freeze that only a frosty coke or pepsi will satisfy yaknow? mrsparkle.gif
Gray Seal
If we are speaking of sodas, my preference is:

Root Beer
Vanilla Coke
Black Cherry (Why do they not make this in liters?)
johnlocke
Actually like the rest of ya'll I'm a water addict, but I also like Gatorade (cures hang-overs like that!). When I do drink soda, it's Diet Pepsi with a shot of Jack Daniels...it's really sweet and most people tell me it makes them sick, but I like it. beer.gif And beer is an everyday thang as well.

GraySeal,
Vanilla Coke? sour.gif As best as I can tell it's the worst attempt at bringing cream soda back since 1983.... sour.gif
ConservPat
I'm a Coke kinda guy. Although Pepsi is good too. But I drink Coke, Sprite and Root Beer.

I finally saw the Vanilla Pepsi in the store just now. $1.39

I went for the Vanilla Coke as it was $0.88. whistling.gif tongue.gif

I do like cream soda. The A&W version is good as is Shasta. Some of them are not very good. Vanilla Coke is not cream soda to me.

I mainly drink milk and water.
Grendel72
Dr. Pepper. Truly the nectar of the gods.
Momof3
If I drink a cola it is Pepsi. Coke to me is too sweet.
What I drink almost everyday of the year is Iced tea.
In the summer Sun tea but have to have fresh lemon with it.
I think maybe though I am going to have to stop drinking tea before I go to bed. Getting older now and kidneys or is it bladder can't handle it anymore. I have to get up in the middle of the night at least once someitmes twice. whistling.gif whistling.gif whistling.gif

Hi, I'm Elspeth, and I'm a DIET COKAHOLIC!!!

(Audience: HI, ELSPETH!!!)

Any questions? cool.gif

My soft drink of choice would probably be Sprite, though I rarely drink
carbonated beverages.

For dessert, rootbeer floats are yummy! innocent.gif
Victoria Silverwolf
If I had to drink either Coke or Pepsi, I would choose the Pepsi. Like my friend Grendel, however, I think that Dr. Pepper is better.

So much for the very famous name brands. There are other soft drinks that are much better. There's this stuff called Kentucky Nip which has a cherry-mint flavor which is nice. As a kid I remember liking Squirt, which had a grapefruit flavor.

The best soft drink I have ever had, however, is a "gourmet" root beer called Virgil's. It's really flavorful, and has won "fancy food" awards. Check out this web site, which lists the awards won, and lists the wonderful spices and herbs that give it such a nice taste.

As far as my softdrink of choice goes, I think my avatar says it all. mrsparkle.gif

I am partial to a root beer or cream soda once in a while. And of course, for the harder side of drinking, you just can't beat a good single malt whiskey, or a good rum.
Mrs. Pigpen
I like Coca Cola best smile.gif
I try to stay away from the diet variety, since I was addicted to it for years. I moderate myself pretty well with the regular Coke though.
Curmudgeon
In our household, "glug" is a synonym for DIET COKE. It's what we drink! flowers.gif

When the price drops below $1 for two liters, I usually pick up an 8 pack. If it's at 88 cents for two liters, I'll buy 16 - 20 bottles; enough to get us through a week.
nighttimer
The one thing that's always in my refrigerator is Diet Coke.

Preferably the non-caffine Diet Coke. Sometimes the Diet Cherry Coke. Never the Diet Lemon Coke, but I LOVE Diet Vanilla Coke. thumbsup.gif

Pepsi? BLEH! sour.gif Waaaay too sweet and it really is nothing but sugar water that's been carbonated.

Pepsi is to colas what Spam is to meat: something like it, but not quite real.

Hugo
Actually my favorite is Squirt. Black Cherry and any cola, usually whatever is on sale, will also do. A slight preference to Pepsi.

I tried the cherry diet Coke years ago in the hopes that it would taste like the cherry Cokes that I had as a kid. I tried a single bottle of the vanilla diet Coke. The lemon diet Coke is a bit strong for the family's taste, although I drink it occasionally.

Long before Lemon Diet Coke came out, I started keeping lemons and lemon juice around to add to my Tab. (Diet Coke's original name!) I like that blend of flavors.

No one has mentioned Birch beer yet? The nectar of the gods...it's about 50 times better than root beer (which I also LOVE). Can't find birch beer on the west coast very many places...I've only seen it in little tiny family owned restaurants/fast food joints. If you haven't tried it and like root beer, you MUST try it. It's one of the things I miss most about living on the east coast (that and buffalo mozzarella fresh from the deli and bakery butter cookies with "jimmies" on top - yum, yum!).

Fountain vanilla/chocolate cokes (or should I say, fountain cokes with vanille aor chocolate syrup added and stirred in - like you can get in 50s diners) are better than the canned variety (well better than canned vanilla coke) but the canned vanilla coke will do in a pinch.

Cherry 7-Up is wonderful. They don' sell it in our commissary, so I make it myself with cherry juice (from my husband's jar of cherries...he always wonders what happens to the juice laugh.gif)

Wild Cherry Pepsi (the only kind of Pepsi I like) is delicious!

I always order Shirley Temples when I go out to eat back in the states. Those are so good.

Oddly enough, I don't like cherries (only cherry flavored beverages)!
Young at heart
I'm a Pepsi drinker and the main reason is the amount of carbonation that seems to be in Coke.

Most people have a stupid party trick that they learned in college or somewhere else along the road. Mine is to guzzle a can of Coke then belch a series of sentences.

Disgusting yes but only Coke allows me to perform this most unique stunt.

I dont really drink soda, I usually drink water. But on those rare occasions I feel like soda, I usually drink Ginger Ale or Blue Sky natural soda (and my favorite flavor is Cherry Vanilla). Its the best. The Rootbeer is also good. And the Raspberry....
CruisingRam
I used to drink a half rack of coke a day, but the calories started to catch up with me as I got older. Now I drink diet soda water, Kiwi strawberry is my favorite, 68 cents a liter!
Robin_Scotland
Well Im in a pickle sad.gif

You see Ill drink either, although when I drink Coke I can feel my teeth rotting immediately and Pepsi sometimes tastes like something you would clean a drainpipe with.

But thats not the problem. They are afterall soft drinks tongue.gif

The problem is I try to avoid using products by companies who have exploited workers in sweatshops. Coca Cola seems to be the larger offender of the two.

Its even a bigger problem when so many companies use sweatshops (Nestle, Gap, Nike...). Its going to get to the stage where I either have to give in to temptation or start living as a hobo avoiding all advertisements.

Favourite drink therefore is Irn Bru, but have to admit Barr may also have sweatshops. I just dont know anymore crying.gif

Anyway! Support my petition !

Like liquid plastic mrsparkle.gif

But it doesnt make my teeth feel furry like Coke/Pepsi! Well not immediately anyway. And goes well with a curry cool.gif

for those who like cream soda: Sprechers Cream soda is the best.. hands down, microbrewed sodas are usually superior.
Cola: Pepsi, but i will drink coke, i like RC cola though, its a lot like pepsi, but with a slightly different taste

Dr pepper/skipper/whatever tastes just like laundry detergent smells (IMO)
sour.gif

the best root beers:
IBC, Sprechers, A&W, Barg's

but i am a Sobe guy, sobe's are the best designer non-soda drinks for taste.

its about the lizard.

Jones Soda is great if you want an original brew and bottle.

Snapples are failures, at least their element series, i like their original teas and stuff.

anyways,
there are my two cents

Avid sweet tea drinker - homemade thank you very much. I will, however, drink a Dr. Pepper or Mr. Pibb. mrsparkle.gif
Eeyore
Dr. Pepper, IBC Root Beer and Vanilla Pepsi

But I usually drink diet cola of some kind when I drink a soda.
Amlord
Straight Pepsi, no diet here...

I will actually drink almost anything (and have whistling.gif ) except Ginger Ale, which I cannot tolerate. Bleh.
Jaime
Will everyone be OK with generic Kroger soda for the AD Party? (whenever that maybe)

There's no way we'll be able to make everyone happy otherwise biggrin.gif
_________

I'm a REALLY annoying soda drinker (ask Mike!). I will not open my own can or pour my own glass, but I will drink from Mike's occaisionally. I prefer Coke if I'm drinking soda at all. We also LOVE Canfield's Creme Soda, but I think that is only sold in the Chicagoland area - so I have to have my mom ship it here ( thanks, mom wub.gif )

Since I passed that nasty kidney stone 6 years ago, I mostly drink water. LOTS AND LOTS of water. I've heard people complain that they can't drink 8 glasses of water a day. I average about 12 online2long.gif
Momof3
Jaime I think if I remember from your grandfather and somewhere else water of course is the best for not getting another kidney stone but I think grandpa also was told to drink Cranberry juice.
Do you or anyone else know if this is true?
Curmudgeon
Paladin Elspeth, trained as an RN, just told me that Cranberry Juice helps to keep the urine acidic, thereby reducing the tendency for the kidney stones to form.
Wertz
I generally go with whatever's on sale. unsure.gif

For preference, though (since I can't get Jolt - the best cola in the world - where I live), it is definitely Pepsi over Coke.

Otherwise, I'm with kmsouthern: birch beer rocks! I'm also partial to Mountain Dew, Mountain Dew Code Red, Mountain Dew Live Wire, and Dr. Pepper.

For non-carb, I'd go with Quane's choice of SoBe (especially Fuerte, Dragon, and Zen Tea). I can go for sweet iced tea, too - especially sun tea with lime. Mmmmm...

(Oh - and the guilty pleasure: Strawberry Yoo-Hoo - I can throw one of those suckers back in about 2.6 seconds.)
Chasuk
I don't, I think one caramel-colored, carbonated enamel destroyer tastes much the same as any other, so I drink either with equal infrequency.

My vote goes to Coke, however, as at least it has originality on its side.

Otherwise, it's Crystal Light for me! mrsparkle.gif
Izdaari
None of the above.

I drink those kinds of drinks pretty rarely, but when I do I like either Henry Weinhard's or Thomas Kemper Root Beer. Both those of are microbrew beer companies that also do a mean root beer.

What do I drink then? Bottled water, fruit or veggie juices, organic milk and microbrew beers.
Rev_DelFuego
Well Big Red cream soda is my favorite, but they don't seem to have it here in the north. So I usually stick with Dr. Pepper or cherry coke when I have to. Most of the the time Tap water is fine with me. Unless I got some ice tea with lots of sugar.
quarkhead
In India during the 70s, Coca Cola was not allowed in the country. I remember drinking Fanta and Thumb's Up. We always drank soda when we were at a restaurant, because rule number one was always: don't drink any water you didn't personally boil. Waiters would inevitably answer in the affirmative to the question "is your water safe to drink?"

This was before bottled water was being widely sold.

Besides, try drinnking boiled water sometime. It's fine for the occasional camping trip, but as a staple it kind of sucks. sour.gif

Try drinking water purified with iodine sometime.

Diet coke is my drink of choice I'm not dieting or anything, but I like the unleaded taste as opposed to leaded. Of course, I've heard diet coke is just about the worst substance known to man. I'm just hoping it's a type of preservative.
