I am a moderator and admin at other forums like this. I know on Invison Power Board there is a command called Merge. What you do is go to the moderating options click merge with other topic(or the like) and it will take you to another screen. Then you select the topic in which to merge. Then people are still able to respond to posts. Yes this takes a little more clicking to fix but it would go a long way in cleaning up duplicate topics.

I don't think you're going to win this argument Monty. I don't always understand or agree when the moderators close a topic on America's Debate, but in my experience these decisions are usually correct when they are made.
One thing I can tell you for sure; pointing out how other boards handle things isn't going to change how they do things
here. But we'll see what happens, right?

This site is for constructive debates on a specific subject based on the original poster's question(s). It would not be constructive to merge two topics as doing so would detract from either poster's original questions. Also, if two topics are so similar, it is best to just terminate the duplicate topic.
I like the structure here and would not like it to change.

I think someone can cut and paste his comments on the closed topic to the open topic, without too much sweat.

Thank you for your concern, Monty. Gray Seal has answered your questions exactly as I would have.
New threads require a clear question for us debate (which makes it imperative the question be made in the VERY FIRST post of a debate). We simply can not have another person take over someone's debate because the questions weren't asked to everyone's liking.
There is no point in having 25 topics on the same matter in different forums. It is a waste of resources.
The wonderful thing about America's Debate is that most of our members are hard workers. They are not only willing but actively help maintain this system of debate we have established here. I am not convinced there is a need for any restructuring at this time.

I am not arguing. This is a suggestion.
I understand your response. I don't agree with it but I understand it. I am dropping the this idea. Thanks for replying.

...and on that note, I'll close this topic.
