To administrators, Mods and Committee Members,

I was going to ask either Mike or Jaime in a PM but I really wouldn't mind hearing from the Committee Members themselves also. At other forums there are Administrators and of course Mods, just never seen a Committee member as well so I have no idea.

Is it based on postage count? length of time here? On what basis is a Committee Member chosen? what responsibilities do you/they have?

thank you,

Elle

PS. If this is not appropriate a question for here, then PM's giving light to my question would be appreciated muchly.

This post is perfectly acceptable for public consumption. Thanks for asking.

Committee Members primarily serve to assist the Admins and Mods by providing input on issues of discipline and direction of the forum. They have no ability to directly discipline members but are active in reviewing reported violations. The Committee (as well as the entire staff) functions as a sounding board for ideas about the future of the forum. And of course, they have say in who we promote next to the Committee and who gets promoted to Moderator.

The basic guidelines for being chosen for the Committee should be fairly obvious. One must be an active participant, are willing to pitch in (point out threads, help newbies, report posts when necessary, etc), have no or few discipline problems, and most importantly, show an interest in maintaining civil, constructive debate.

We try and populate the entire staff with people who hold a diverse group of opinions. We want our members to feel they are participating in a community that is fair and where the rules are evenly applied.

I hope I have answered your questions. If you have any follow up, please feel free to ask. smile.gif
