I recently read a Discover magazine article which described the tremendous contributions to science made by women. However, the number who have made these great contributions is dwarfed by the number of women who have chosen not to pursue a career in science because of gender specific difficulties. It is clear that women represent a vast untapped reservoir of potential for scientific progress.
