Am I the only one here with a blog? Surely there must be others here at AD with one.

I don't have a blog, I prefer the style of online diaries, which is what I have. I've had it for 17 months now, and I'm pretty attached to it ermm.gif I don't really understand the difference between blogs and online journals/diaries, though... exactly what is the difference, besides the label?

I had one... for awhile. It got to the point where I never bothered to update it (although when I did I could spit out a whole page). I've never been good about journals and things like that. It's just not my style of writing. I do, however, keep a compilation of my writings which are not related to my personal life. I like that much better than any sort of personal diary.

None, really. I have my own weblog which goes back to to August 2000, after changing domains twice, hosts three times and software more times than I can remember. It's pretty eclectic. There are posts about technical stuff, politics, pictures from my trips, humor, and just about everything in between. One of the wonderful things about a weblog is that it can be whatever you want it to be.

I actually found AD through my weblog, in a way. We happen to use the same hosting company. Even though I do get some "blog rats" who seem to have nothing better to do than visit other people's weblogs and post abuse, I wouldn't give it up because I've also met a lot of really interesting people that way.

Edited out unauthorized link.

I think I would like to have one someday. I do have two or three favorites that I check every day and look forward to reading...I'm always looking for others as good as they are (I won't post them because the topic asks for just AD members blogs) but if anyone knows of some good ones I might be interested in please PM me the links. I'm now going to check out your's Platypus...I always enjoy reading your posts so I'm sure I'll enjoy your blog too. Do you get a lot of regular readers and if so do they email you their comments alot (I don't mean the stupid anonymous hate mail that I'm sure come with the territory.) Do you get 'regular's' who email you because they think they know you from reading your blog? This question is for all of those who have their own, btw.

When I was first introduced to the Internet, prior to online graphics, Windows icons, etc... I was warned not to post anything of a personal nature, because of how easily a computer could be tracked on line. At this point, I have lost all of my notes on how to edit in Unix anyway, so starting my own web page would be back to square one in all likelihood.

There are many programs the let you use the mouse and keyboard to make a website, the software on your computer most likely contains an html editor. There is also many sites on the web that allow you to make and edit a web site with such tools or software as well.

As for blogs, i don’t have any sites for one, i usually just post on other peoples blog sites. There are some rather nifty ones if you take the time to look for them.

Journals are focused inwards and mostly tend to write about personal experiences. Blogs, weblogs, are focused outwards and mostly tend to write about non-personal things.

Actually, it was through my blog that I found out about AD. Jaime left me a comment after finding one of my posts, and I checked out her forum and decided to join.

Oh, I definitely have a lot of regular readers. My mother, for one, and my wife for another laugh.gif Seriously, though, a lot of the regulars fall into the "friends and family" category who find out what I'm up to by reading my weblog. There's also a substantial contingent of current and former coworkers, and another of people I sort of know online or by reputation (or vice versa) but haven't actually met or spoken to face-to-face. Many of the latter have weblogs of their own (I'm sort of at the periphery of a certain techie-blogger cluster) and on several occasions we've even had something resembling a conversation with each posting to their respective weblog. And then there are the stalkers. Yes, I have a few. I'm opinionated and outspoken, and I've been online a long time, so there are people I've offended here or on e-thePeople or on Slashdot or Usenet or who-knows-where who have become regulars just so they can leave offensive remarks in my comments section. I find it amusing, like someone who says a TV series is really awful but keeps watching it anyway. wacko.gif

I rarely get email through my website, though. I guess people either leave comments on the website itself, or on their own website, or they save them up until the next time we meet in some other context. I'd say I only get a couple of actual emails a month that way, almost always from a new reader, and it's always quite a pleasure.
