So, broadband users how's the speed treating you?
Those still in the narrow-band, thinking of signing up?
How do you think it helps you keep up with current issues?

...and of course, what kind of service do you have (cable, DSL, etc.)?

Personally I love it C-Span video, BBC live feeds wub.gif online2long.gif

I love my cable service. It's only been out once, due to a semi taking out two poles that carried the cable to my area.

Fast downloads, especially of even big movie trailers, etc. I wouldn't go back to dial up if they paid me for it.

I love it because i can download anything faster than i could with AOL dial-up a few years ago. Verizon's DSL rules.

I can play my downloaded music without it acting like a snail

I have Verizon DSL.

It routinely warns me that I have a cable disconnected. (8 - 12 times an hour)

It periodically requires a complete power cycling of everything to re-establish contact with the Internet.

It takes it's bloody fool time exchanging information at times. Saturday, in the chat room. it seemed to take a good five minutes to recognize that I had pushed an enter key. I've had a couple of posts where I spent time editing them, only to have them completely disappear.

I haven't really noticed any difference in transfer speed, only that it doesn't take an hour to access the net and two of us can be on at once. The ability to use the telephone probably makes it worth the cost, although in the past I have relied on using two telephone lines.

Overall. I've used Internet connections at colleges, in factories, and at the library. The service we get at home isn't impressing me in the least. mad.gif

After a six month long battle with BellSouth, they finally admitted they shouldn't have signed me up for DSL because I was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay past their maximum distance. They issued a full refund for the entire time I had their service. I do not recommend DSL.

So, we switched over to cable modem, which we had before. This time we lucked out, though. Our cable company just doubled speeds across the board, but didn't raise the cost at all.

A speed test just a moment ago reveals I have downloads at 3,010 Kbps and uploads at 242Kbps. I download 20MB zipped forum database backups in a minute. cool.gif Now that's a pretty good speed. online2long.gif

We have cable modem here with an in-home wireless network by D-Link connecting us all through a single modem. Works pretty well 98% of the time and I LOVE the speed. Actually, most of the time I do, but I frequently have to upload a 100 MB+ file to our NYC office and instead of taking the afternoon off while it's transmitting, I only have time to get a cup of coffee and pet the dog. unsure.gif

I have noticed something of a usual interruption a few minutes after the top of the hour 24 hours. Is that it? It drives me nuts when i'm playing Windows Media Player

I love my cable modem. I had lots of problems at first. But it was determined that having 3 splitters is not a good thing. Now that my cable goes directly to my cable modem, I've had no problems.

And with my cable modem connected to my wireless network, it's simply heaven. thumbsup.gif

My downloads are 2.0 to 4.0 kbps. At my office through the front yard, Charter is burying a cable to supply broadband to new customers on down the road. Two miles east of me, Madison Telephone and SBC are working together to bury new line to supply DSL to a community surrounding Holiday Shores Lake. Me. My house. I am less than a mile from a fiberoptic connection hub. No broadband available. sad.gif sour.gif

I love broadband. I can download many times the amount of porn than I could with dialup... thumbsup.gif
