I had to ask this question to those living in Georgia, but if it is against any rules (I don't see any) to make a posting specific to a certain state, I apologize.

I work with the semiannual Georgia Poll and was surprised to see that - despite anger by Repubs. over the flag, despite frustration by teachers over education changes, and despite flak from Dems. over the HOPE scholarship - Governor Perdue has a 57% approval rating.

So my question is this: What is it you like (or dislike) about our current Governor Sonny Perdue?

I'm honestly indifferent. He hasn't really given me a reason to form a mob and recall him yet! laugh.gif The problems with HOPE were there before he was governor. The flag had to go and as long as he doesn't try to get it reinstated, I'm fine. Teachers EVERYWHERE need to be paid more! thumbsup.gif

I think the biggest thing about Perdue, is that he's the first Republican governor since reconstruction and people are just weary of that. hmmm.gif

When I mention the flag, I am talking about those who are angry because they wanted the old flag reinstated.

With the teachers, I am talking about how they overwhelmingly supported him because they did not like the way Roy Barnes' education changes.

And with the HOPE Scholarship, I am talking about Democrat's dislike of Perdue's proposal to use the SAT to determine HOPE Scholarship qualifications.

Teachers say they've been led on by Perdue

After flip-flopping on flag, can Sonny Perdue be trusted?

Perdue wants to add SAT score to HOPE requirement

Each of these groups pose a reason not to like Perdue, yet he has only a 36% disapproval. He must be doing something right.

Purdue seems like a nice guy, but I still haven't seen what his "vision" for Georgia is. His approval rating isn't higher or lower, because I think voters still aren't sure what to measure him against... other than King Roy. He hasn't taken solid stands on anything and appears to be more of a legislative "insider" than a leader of the entire government.

On the bright side, he's definitely not a "grandstander". I may not see a vision, but I also don't see him thumping the table over a non-issue. He tends to try to finesse them instead of making himself into a lightning rod for them.
