I would like to know what you guys think of the Italian Military's performance during WWII. IMO the Italians were in a pretty hopeless position, things like the lack of resources like coal crippled the economy and they were not prepared for war. So their lack of success is understandable.

But I also think that the Italians could have used their navy and airforce in a better way than they actually did. Their failure to eliminate British bases in Malta and other places certainly made things more difficult in North Africa.
If they had eliminated some of the bases their supply lines would have been less subject to interference, which should have improved the outlook of the North African campaign and possibly the Middle Eastern theatre (with the help of pro-Axis allies in the area). The fall of Alexandria and the Suez would certainly have made things more difficult for the UK.

Any other thoughts would be greatly welcome.
