I have these two links in my favorites and find I use them often when dealing with international issues of all sorts:

ph34r.gif CIA World Fact Book ph34r.gif (Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it's the CIA, but it's very well set up and suits most of my purposes happy.gif )

World Time Zones Did you know China has only ONE time zone? Does anyone know how that works for them over there? huh.gif

If anyone else has any similar sites, please post them smile.gif

I use the CIA factbook frequently smile.gif

I shared these sites with Jaime earlier, and I think that they fit into this category.

http://www.penpal.net
http://www.interpals.net

Also, in 2001, the U.N. sponsored the "Dialogue among civilizations," an idea proposed by Iranian President Khatami. The official website is: http://www.dialoguecentre.org/, and it is loaded with useful information and links.

I also recommend http://www.sister-cities.org/, which is the home site to a program that links cities across the world. Chances are that your home city has one or more sister cities in varying countries. They sponsor events and projects that promote global dialogue and understanding. For example, one of Boulder, Colorado's sister cities is in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. One of the projects between these two cities is a traditional Tajiki tea house that was built in Boulder involving over 40 artisans from Tajikistan. They serve a wide variety of international cuisine and of course, tea. The artwork is stunningly beautiful. You can see pictures and learn about the tea house here: http://www.boulderteahouse.com/

Another good one is http://www.earthcalendar.net/, which lists holidays for many different religions and cultures.

This is the website for a travel show that is geared towards women: http://www.adventuredivas.com I like it, because it is loaded with content, the destinations are unique compared to many travel shows, and the ladies participate in a lot of non-touristy activities.

OMGosh, these would be so great for more Americans to use. The geography knowledge in this country is SO bad. Thanks for the tips Otseng. I am giving them to my Grands. smile.gif

I have a really good link for this topic. Check out satellite photos of major landmarks and cities at Space.com. You can check out photos from Baghdad, to Boston. Very cool site in general. Pretty amazing what you can see from space.

As my Geography teacher once said:

"Geography isn't just about labeling countries on a map & coloring it in" biggrin.gif

This site leans to the left, but it is good starting point for learning about world conflicts.
