I recently learned of the Feith memo from reading of it on the Washington Post about a month back.

I searched around on the internet for a text copy, but the closest I could find was from the Weekly Standard;

Do you think it means anything to the Bush cause (such as his terrorist assertions)?

I would also note that the leaked memo was classified and the Justice department was to launch an investigation into the matter.

Read the Feith memo thanks to your referenced link. Although I had heard bits and pieces during the onset of the leaked memo, I was not aware of the full story. After reading the article...it is quite revealing indeed.

IMO, this IS classified information that our government did not want leaked due to possible compromising of relevant sources, etc. I don't believe this memo was purposely leaked to back Bush's cause. The fact that we have heard little else about it indicates to me that it is a subject matter for obvious reasons that was not intended for outside the loop and most of all, public knowledge.

Fascinating memo, Wanderer, good find! I'm going to study it a bit more along with a few other things to try and put some context to all of this, but it does shed some light on some stuff that has puzzled me somewhat. For one thing, every time the terrorist - Iraq tie has been brought up with Jay Rockefeller on the Sunday morning talk shows, he's kind of tip-toed around it, and Rockefeller isn't normally a tip-toey kind of guy, he can get pretty darn partisan on occasion. As a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, he would have access to this kind of information and as your article states, he has seen this memo. He is bound by honor though not to divulge classified information as is Pat Roberts so that would certainly explain their reluctance to discuss the subject on national television. Good for them, both of them!

As far as how this memo got leaked, that's a real problem. Stuff like this shouldn't be getting out and it may explain the reluctance of the administration and various intelligence agencies from sharing the full story with Congress. I hope they find whoever leaked this and throw their rear-ends into jail to think about it for awhile.

Question for you. Do you think Ted Kennedy and other senior level Democrats yelling "liar" about Bush would have clearance to see this classified memo before it was leaked? It is beyond me how so many senior Democrats are willing to slander Bush about Iraq and yet, if this memo is indeed true, there are plenty of reasons in that memo why the Bush/Cheney statements and actions now make more sense. I guess what I am questioning is that casting campaign/election year aside...how can some of these senior level representatives make such slanderous accusations against Bush if they know about the classified information in this memo and probably many more of the same type of documents that thankfully weren't leaked?

Kennedy wouldn't have seen it nor would most of the other members of the US Senate. At the very most the ones who would have seen this memo would have been the members of Senate Select Committee on Intelligence who are listed in this link. It is also entirely possible that ONLY Senators Roberts as chairman and Rockefeller as ranking member would have seen it and possibly a small number of staff members.

This committee is supposed to be a pretty non-partisan, non-political committee. They deal with the most sensitive issues the US has as far as our intelligence operations are concerned, and the members understand that maintaining secrecy is paramount to the security of the United States. If they are to correctly function in their Constitutional role of oversight, it is vital that they not betray their trust. Any Senator who does that would face serious consequences that at the minimum would result in removal from the committee and possible sanctions from the Senate in the form of a censure.

That's why I'm disturbed at the leak of this memo, that stuff isn't supposed to happen and I don't think it was leaked by a Senator.

Thanks Aquilla! The Democrats listed to my knowledge have not been the ones who have made such scathing remarks about Bush/Iraq. Carl Levin, Dianne Feinstein, and JOHN EDWARDS have been more civil in their criticisms. hmmm.gif Well, in my opinion, some of these hate Bush people have been programmed like wind up dolls! laugh.gif
