I'm especially interested, as a Briton and a huge fan, in The Office's double win. BBC America is watched by probably less than the crowd at a Mets game yet it won Best Comedy and Best Comedy Performance.

Do any AD members watch it? Got any questions a Brit may be able to answer about it?

What do you think of the overall results?

Incidentally, The Office is now finished in Britain. Ricky Gervais and his writing partner did two 6 episode series and two Christmas Special finales and that's it. A bit like Fawlty Towers, keep it on top form so as to maintain its reputation forever.

NBC are making a US version. whistling.gif It might be good, might not.

Care to provide us a link regarding these "Globes"? Are they awards? Is that a shortened form for "Golden Globes"? It would help a lot if we knew what the heck you were talking about.

That is soooo British to let artistic integrity get in the way of high profits. With behavior like this we would all have been deprived of Rocky IV, Godfather III, and Joanie Loves Chachi.

Silly Brits. Established product have leverage and that leverage can squeeze out megabucks. Of course, maybe these artistes have the integrity because of the difference in market size.

LOL.

I have not seen the show but it is enjoying a sweep of rave reviews as we Americans start grabbing the product and show the Brits how to properly squeeze the dough through a variety of means. Quality? Be careful about that, you don't want to alienate the masses by being too pensive.

Here is a complete list of the winners.

I watched them and was delighted that Lord of the Rings: Return of the King and Lost in Translation did well. I was annoyed that Angels in America did well: I love Mike Nichols and it had a good cast - but I loathe Tony Kushner (for purely personal reasons) and hearing everyone go on about his "genius" every five minutes made me nuts.

So this DOES have to do with the Golden Globes? At least according to Wertz's link. Well, then I have no opinions. I'm pretty much the anti-pop-culture princess. king.gif

I don't watch award shows but American Splendor should have at least been nominated for something. It was by far the best movie I've seen this year. I guess the actors weren't famous enough to be nominated.

Hope Davis (American Splendor) was nominated for Best Supporting Actress, but she lost to the (as-of-late) award baby Renee Zelwegger (Cold Mountain).

I have no interest in Cold Mountain, and was glad to see it only get 1 award out of it's 8 nominations. Lord of the Rings swept, winning all 4 of it's nominations including Best Drama biggrin.gif

And the Oscar nominations come out Tuesday, that should be interesting.

It seems to me that these Golden Globes are the prophets of what's to come in the Academy Awards. Lord of the Rings will come out as the winner in that one with Peter Jackson holding the little gold man for direction and picture. Bill Murray got a golden globe, does he stand a chance against Sean Penn for the Oscar?
