Cyan and kimpossible (my Denver cohorts)may be able to help me with this one. I am relatively new to the Denver area and this is the first I have heard of this annual tradition. Evidently, every year on this day, all the bums of Denver are gathered together and engage in a race down the main street of Denver; much to the amusement of spectators. People donate money, food, and supplies to homeless shelters in honor of this spectacle. Am I the only one that feels this is wrong on some level. . .but I'm not certain. Does the end justify the slightly degrading means?

I've lived in Colorado my whole life, and I have never heard of this before.

It seems pretty degrading to me and I wouldn't participate as a spectator, but if the participants on either side are willing, than there's not much to be said. Homeless people can make their own decisions and decide if the ends justify the means.

I just heard it on the news last night and today on the radio. . .it sounds crazy doesn't it?!

I'm all for bums being creative in supporthing themselves. If they want to make a spectacle of themselves to eat, by all means. Nobody's forcing them to run and they're not doing anything illegal. (Though watching bums run wouldn't exactly entice me to give them anything)

Ive lived here since 1996, and Ive never heard of this. I am somewhat appalled at the whole thing, but agree with Cyan. Its their choice, if both sides are willing, what can you do?Although it saddens me to see human life degrded and cheapened
