This is something that i like to talk about. I personally do not feel that parents who send their children to a private school should pay for the tax money that goes to public schools. If I send my child to private school, i do not want to have to pay tax money that goes to public schools. Why should i have to pay, my child doesn't go there. How our my children and I going to benefit from this. It is like i'm paying money for something that i'm not using. To me this is a waste of my income, and it may take away from ability to provide a descent living for my family.

I don't use Medicare, welfare, jails, the military, or social security, why am I paying for them? We are all responsible for government programs even if we don't use them. If we let some people not pay for public education the public schools aren't public anymore. If only people who use them pay for them we will not have any public education.

Ranci is quite right Infalahpour, we all must pay for government programs we don't use because it benefits the whole country.

In the case of education: All children deserve a good education.
If people who choose to send their children to parochial and private schools, or choose home schooling are exempt from paying taxes for education there simply would not be enough money to support public education. The public school standards would drop. Even the most dedicated teachers would want to teach where they could earn the most money. This would be bad for the country.

You do benefit from your support of the public school system. You benefit by living in a country where people are educated. Think of the thousands (millions?) of people who are childless and still support the public schools.

these parents children dont even go to public schools! They shouldn't i repeat shouldn't have to pay taxes they are not using. But on the other hand they also help out the state and the local schools

If I'm a uni-bomber living out in Montana and I don't use any government service why am I paying income tax. If you don't want to pay for public education why don't you just get rid of it? With a republian majority you just might do it.

If you say "no" and allow people who have sent their kids to private school not to pay school taxes then who are we left with to pay the tax. I'm 21 I'm not paying if they aren't. It would only make sense with this mode of thinking to make only those people with children in public school to pay and I don't see them picking up the slack.

Though I would love to be able to opt out of paying for public school taxes, most likely Congress won't ever let it happen.

However, vouchers seem to have a better chance of passing through Congress.
