The kids (of all ages) are kept in check. No chat room slang. Most people use the spell check function. Everyone has a shift key on their computer. You get the feeling on AD that the adults are in charge.

The friendly atmosphere. No hostility and flaming. Just a friendly debate

It's great to be able to hear opposing viewpoints without the attitude of "I'm right, you're wrong."

The people. This forum is the greatest I have ever been to, and it starts with the moderators and users themselves. Everyone disagrees, but there usually is respect for each other. Many other places on the internet I have come across allow debates to be reduced to one-liners and personal attacks. On the rare occasion this happens here, the moderators are always quick to put a stop to it.
I love the diversity of topics and opinions found here. Again, this is because of the users. It is always refreshing to find a place where there is a large amount of disagreement that can be debated in a civil and respectful manner!

I've become much more informed about various issues
since I've been a member here at A.D. I like the sense
of community, if you will, that a person wouldn't expect
to find on-line. It's a very well-run operation!

Is it just me or does anyone check out the advertising? It always seem to be pertinent to whatever the topic is, for example:
Anti WalMart thread - Walmart Ads
Mideast Conflict threads - Mideast Ads
Pets thread - Puppy find ads (I have been surfing this one for a day or two now, which I suggest for puppy lovers everywhere.

Information.
More people use outside sources to back up their arguments here than at many other sites I've seen. That means I read far more than I write here.

Well, discounting the fact that I've been here 2 days....
The people here do seem nice, and I don't really get 'afraid' to post my viewpoints. On some other forums the debate chambers get really heated and if you are of the minority posting people tend to chew you out. From the peeking around that I've done, it seems like people seem to be a lot more open.
The diversity of views/parties/people is great too!

The knowledge you gain from debate with such fine people!
It is good to talk to people who often have very different political, social, economical etc opinions. Despite my best efforts, sitting here by myself and trying to figure out just what the heck is wrong with the world doesn't get me anywhere. AD is the only debate forum I have been a member of where I have found civil and respectful attitudes between people from very conservative to very liberal, socialist to republican. And doesn't that give us some hope!
If only the rest of the western world were as civilised as AD, then maybe the dolphins wouldn't be laughing at what a mess our species has made of the planet.
