My son has a friend who was fine till a week ago Sunday. He vomitied and then passed out on the floor and hit his head.
He went to the hospital Wednesday. They told him they thought he had a parasite in his liver and that 90% of the time a person with this would need a new Liver.
He was transported to another hospital where they determined he did in fact have a parasite and it has now entered his kidneys.
He did receive a new liver today.
My question is does this have a Name? How often does this happen? What causes it?
I did try to look on the internet last night and they had some atricles about parasites in the liver but none that said it required a liver transplant.
I don't know if age would be helpful but he is 26.
I really would appreciate any info on this
Thanks!
Did a quick Google search and found this: Malarial Parasite.
It says it affects liver cells
articleThere is also the Fasciola hepatica (the sheep liver fluke):
ArticleQUOTE
The common name of this parasite, the "sheep liver fluke," is somewhat misleading since this parasite is found in animals other than sheep (including cattle and humans), and the parasite resides in the bile ducts inside the liver rather than the liver itself.
Disturbing...ain't it?!
