Though I don't agree with Bill O'reilly much of the time, I definitely like his style. It's about time someone used the audience to affect change, in my opinion. He has a new site now at http://www.billoreilly.com

What does everyone think?

I figure this can also be a general topic for opinions on Bill O'reilly.

I know it's not going to come as a shock tongue.gif ...
but I despise Bill O'cryly. He has to be the biggest whiner I've ever seen. Sadly, I know many American's agree with every word he utters.
turnea
Whining yes, but it seems to me the useful kind, if his goal is to improve government. I don't agree with him all the time but he has a good point on immigration, drugs, and some foreign policy matters.

I don't like his moral outrage over things like rappers, the show The Saprano's, the way he got in the middle of that mother trying to get her daughters back. The rapper thing reminds me of how people like Tipper Gore said that Ozzy's music caused teen suicide. Like the ones who censored Elvis in the beginning. Why doesn't he blame the parents? Who's responsibility is it to morally police young people?

But mostly what sickened me was an interview back in August
between him and the ambassador to Germany regarding Chancellor Schroeder's comments that they would not support the US against Iraq. Without the tone of voice you can't really appreciate how awful it sounded at the time but the message was 'Pay up Germany, you owe us.' Thank you Bill for helping to poison international relations. It really hurts us in the effort to share intelligence regarding terrorist cells in that country. Having people like him set the tone here is not a good idea unless we like accumulating enemies as we go.

O'REILLY: All right. Now, he's our ally, right? I mean, Germany, ally of the United States, United States fighting its own war against terror, been attacked. All right? So why wouldn't he say, Look, you're our ally, we may disagree with your methods here, but we're going to back you up simply because, you know, you helped us in so many ways.

And when you're talking about money, Mr. Wagner, you know, you guys owe us big. You guys owe me big. I want you to send a nice present to my house this Christmas.

Because American taxpayers saved your butt time and time again. So raising money with the American people, that's not going to really fly over here, you know what I mean?

Except for the rappers, we're pretty much in agreement here. I don't think he supports censorship, he's said so numerous times. Though the fact that he does not offer a clear solution is regrettable. I don't mind moral outrage, frankly some of the effect of much of the popular rap music on children is (to use his term) outrageous. The question is what to do about it. The Germany thing was a mistake, he came at the issue from an irration POV. I also disagree over church-state separation issues and government survellience power.

However his stances on illegal immigration, the war on drugs, and much (though not all) of the Iraq debate, are admirable in my opinion.

He's kind of a mixed bag. blink.gif

I don't like most rap either. But I know it's my job to keep the worst of it away from my kids. And to explain why it's disgusting to be a 'pimp' or a 'baller' for instance. I'm capable of doing that myself.

As long as people can see he is extreme and when he is blowing hot air that's fine. But I think his attitude is so 'Jerry Springer' that his is the only news some people watch. And they don't like thinking for themselves so his opinion and attitude rub off.

If he sat there with that moral outrage about the things that really need to get out to the public he would be my new best friend.

I checked out his site.

It's the typical Foxnews fare, jam packed with ads and promotions.

I found most of the links on the left hand side to be misleading in the fact that the linked content is for "premium" users only. These should be uniquely identified.

Read his privacy policy if you want a good laugh. It's up to you to make sure you check to see if it has changed.

General comments on O'Reilly:

I usually watch O'Reilly's show. Not really because of Bill, but because he gets some good guests.

Personally, O'Reilly became a slime ball in my eyes when he twice declared Matt Drudge to be nothing more than a bottom-feeding, know-nothing gossip columnist.

Drudge nailed him on the fact that O'Reilly was planning on starting a radio show. O'Reilly insisted it was not true.

He told the American a bold faced lie, not unlike the same lie about which he likes to reprimand former Presidents.

I knew he was lying. It is obvious he wants to surpass Rush as the talking head with the biggest audience.

He lost all respect and credibility in my eyes.
