It has always been my estimation that no matter who we elect as our heads of state etc, those in perminant positions of power, civil servants, military etc, are not elected but incumbant regardless.
Could it be these people have an influence on our elected heads of state??.

Elected officials will come and go but the bureaucracy will always be with us. The bureaucrats have a certain amount of power-- after all they are the ones who actually run the country. They most certainly have to at least seem to be following orders of elected officials or their department or agency might find their budget shrinking or become a victim of downsizing.

But it is also how "active" your part is. Say if your a quite senator you wont have a big role in the governement as a "activist"

Who runs the country? I have three answers for that -
-- The media
-- The courts
-- The Pres's wife

Hmmn - I have three answers for that as well:
-- The banks and financial institutions
-- The major corporations and their lobbyists
-- The global management organizations
Happily, most of our politicians are part of or paid for by at least one of the above.

We the people guide this country in the long run. Most elected politicians play to the political center of the area they represent.

So called democracy is a huge con-job.
We are presented with a group of people, pre-chosen for us, and asked to vote for the one we dislike the least.
So far so good, we had a choice.
The elected official assumes power because some of the people put him there.
So far so good again.
The myth of democracy now falls apart.
Whoever we put there, and whatever his political leanings are, becomes entirely subservient to the wishes of the permenant power brokers.
As Wertz put it...
The Banks and Financial institutions.
The major Corporations and their lobbyists.
The Global management organizations.
These appear to have a long term policy in which the use of the most plentiful commodity at their disposal, people, are selfishly used to achieve it.
Is it starting to sound a little like dictatorship?.
Of course not!!
We live in free countries with the freedom of choice dont we?.
We can remove our Presidents and PM's if it gets that bad cant we?.
Of course we can.
But we can't remove or influence the real powers.
Or can we?.
I dont know the answer.
Wish I did.

All it takes is 51% of the American people to vote Libertarian in the next election and there will be little money for the government to transfer into the hands of others. The only tyranny imposed on me is by government. The banks provide me with my home loan, corporations provide me with job opportunities.
Big corporations also have provided my parents with the drugs and medical techniques that allow them not only to survive but to lead active lives. for that I am thankful.
