Well I did it. Being tired of politicians in the Democratic party ignoring their platform, constituents and membership, favoring only those that would help them with re-election I left the Democrats and joined the Republican party back around 1994.

Now, Being tired of politicians in the Republican party ignoring their platform, constituents and membership, favoring only those that would help them with re-election I left the Republican party just a day or so ago.

I am tired of these two machines controlling everything but doing next to nothing for anyone or anything other then themselves and their re-election campaigns. Saying one thing to the public and the press then voting and legislating differently.

However, I still interested in working with a party as I feel groups can be more effective then individuals.

I must admit, that I am lacking in information on them. The Constitutionalist Party intrigues me, though it is not actually a party, and I just discovered the American Patriot Party which is interesting though I am not sure if it is for me.

I personally have differences I can not reconcile with the Libertarian party.

What Political Parties / "Third Parties" are out there and what are the basics of their platforms / ideologies? Do they have an agenda that is different than their platform?

NOTE: This thread is for declared 3rd party and Independent members ONLY. If you have declared youself as anything else or have not declared yourself at all, please do not post in this particular thread. Thanks - Jaime

So, I ask you all.

CLOSED pending the answer to this:

If this is for "all" to debate, may I move it to General Political Debate? If it's for specifically declared members, do you want Independents only to debate it, 3rd party members only or declared Independents & 3rd party members only (meaning Republican, Democrat, None and Private declared members are excluded)?

PM me. smile.gif

Ok, this discussion is back on!

So now is your chance to tell us all what your particular third party, or even a third party you have looked into is all about and why people might consider it. This is also your chance to discuss what you have learned about a third party that seems contrary to, or absent from their public platform.

So:

I have just declared myself for the Green Party of the United States, so I'll start. Here is a link to the Ten Key Values of the Green Party:

Ten Key Values of the Green Party

Here are my personal thoughts about them:

1. GRASSROOTS DEMOCRACY: If we have to have government at all, it's better for it to start from the bottom than from the top.

2. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY: I'm not sure what the best way to fight discrimination might be; I suspect that the culture is more important than the government. In any case, the struggle is not over by any means.

3. ECOLOGICAL WISDOM: This is a big one. Protecting the environment is good for everyone, including business. There is evidence that something is going on (for example, the drastic reduction in the number of amphibians worldwide) and something needs to be done about it.

4. NON-VIOLENCE: Violence, even in self-defense, is the absolute last resort.

5. DECENTRALIZATION: Small is beautiful. I am very leery of any large organization which wields power. Many small governments are better than one big one. Many small businesses are better than one big one.

6. COMMUNITY-BASED ECONOMICS AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE: This is a little vague. Personally, I would favor small-scale capitalism. Some would favor small-scale socialism, some a mixture of both.

7. FEMINISM AND GENDER EQUITY: This is a big issue for me, and there is a long way to go with this. Again, changing the culture is probably more important than government action.

8. RESPECT FOR DIVERSITY: This would include things like the maximum possible religious freedom for the individual, with absolute neutrality about religion from all parts of government; equal legal status for same-sex marriages as for opposite-sex marriages; and so on.

9. PERSONAL AND GLOBAL RESPONSIBILITY: Each individual is important. The interests of one nation do not outweigh the interests of other nations. Planetary patriotism, not national patriotism.

10. FUTURE FOCUS AND SUSTAINABILITY: As one European Green Party member once said, "We are not Left. We are not Right. We are in Front."

Well, as a Green, I highly recommend the Greens as a great alternative to the current two -party system.

However, since Victoria Silverwolf already highlighted the best parts of the Greens I can tell you about two other parties I know of.

One is the Natural Law Party: http://www.natural-law.org/

and the other one, which I think is just based here in Utah, but I may be wrong is called the Personal Choice Party: www.personalchoice.org

I don't know too much about either one, but thought that these might help you in your "search". flowers.gif

i am sure that this will spark controversy, but in theory, i think that communism/socialism benefits most of society as a whole. of course, in practicality, it does not always turn out the way it should, but we must strive to change our nature if we want it to succeed.
