Recently I came across the American Patriot Party (the American Patriot Party) This party was founded in 2003 and I found several things interesting about this party for me.

One, the national party holds little power or funds. The power rests with the state organizations, the national party acts only to provide services and support to the state organizations.

Two, they are willing to endorse candidates from other parties

Three, they require that candidates pledge to seek no more then two terms in an elected office. Favoring Statesmen over Politicians.

Four, they seek to return the country to the vision of the founding fathers, that of limited federal control in favor of state control. Their focus is the return of the country to the powers and limitations laid out in the Constitution.

Has anyone else looked into this party and found anything wrong with it? Specifically has anyone found that this party has actually goals that differ from their stated goals and platforms?

I looked through their site and noticed the items you highlighted about them. Which I, too, felt was interesting characteristics. Beyond that, they seem to be lacking in taking a stand on issues. I perused their web forum and really couldn't find anything substantial. While they state their mission:
QUOTE
To return the federal and state government back to the system originally envisioned by the Founding Fathers as laid out in the Constitution.
To return all powers back to the states from the federal government that are not specified by the Constitution.
To educate the people on the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights. We believe a well informed population will make informed decisions about their leaders.
To field candidates or support candidates who carry the ideas of our Founding Fathers

They don't seem to go to far beyond that. If they have their platform posted, could you direct me to it?

I would be interested in finding out what candidates (outside the party) they have supported and why they supported them. I think that could say something about the direction they intend to go.

I think they need a few more years to determine how far, if at all, they stray from their goals.

edited to add: I just noticed your new avatar, which is the logo for the APP, does this mean you joined?

The American Patriot party is only a year old. As a result things are still under development.

The platform is still being created. However, what the have so face is at:

Platform

Another interesting thing about the party is the the national party is there as a service to the state parties. The state party can devep[ their own platform

The link to the NJ Patriot Party is here:

NJ patriot Party

As far as I know they have yet to support any candidates because the party was formed in March 2003.

Hope this helps. biggrin.gif

Based on my experiences attempting to discuss issues with this party I would suggest you not consider it. That is of course, unless you are under the age of 12 and are a fan of flames over substance.

It would apear I may have jumped the gun.

After complaining about the lack of civility and pointing to Americas Debate as an example of have to run things right it would appear that the American Patriot Party is taking steps to clean up the Forums. thumbsup.gif

The Jury is still out for me on the party but at least they are moving in the right direction.

Sorry Overland, I only just saw all these responses.

Thanks for the link to their platform. I read it through and it seemed fairly straight forward. I think, though, it will take some time for them to solidify their stance and the direction they wish to go. So, for me, the jury is out too. Give them a few years and they could form into something interesting.

When I went there the first time, I, too, went to their forum and was unimpressed with the posts. Glad they are trying to clean it up.

I think the American Patriot Party is where it is at in terms of their committed
stance in returning power to the states---that's what our Founding Fathers en-
visioned---strong state governments where the local citizenry would decide
their own destinies, not a bureaucratic monstrosity emanating from Washington
D.C. And the fact that the national organization places itself at the disposal of
the state groups clearly shows that they don't just talk the talk, but walk the
walk. I'm impressed by what I see so far.
