If a State such as Alaska managed to secede from the US and form a new nation, it would need a new constitution. Obviously the US constitution was for many years a phenomenal success, so why not start with the US constitution as a basic frame work and add updates for modern problems. What changes/updates do you believe are in order.
For brevity I will limit my Constitutional Wish List to three items.
1. I would start with a "no exceptions" prohibition on race, sex, creed, color, sexual orientation, political party/outlook Deference or
Preferences in all government and public funded activities.
2. I would follow with a mandate for the only legal taxation a one time income tax with a maximum rate of 20%, period. The rate would be flat and fixed for a congressional term, the amount being fixed by the last congress. If, in times of War or National Emergency, Congress can petition the citizenry for voluntary donations.
3. I would create two separate Bars or Legal Certification Boards; a litigants bar and a legislators bar. During their final year of Law School a student would be required to declare their intensions in order to specialize in their training and arrange the appropriate Bar exam. After practicing at one or the other, the lawyer must spend ten years inactive and attend two years additional schooling to switch their area of practice. A Litigant may represent a client in court. A Legislator may lobby congress, become a judge, or become a member of a legislative body.
