I apologize for the fact this might be a little late out of the gate but...

This is a copy of the editorial in the New York Times dated March 29, 2004 by a one Bill Safire.

In this editorial, Safire points to evidence of bribery, kickbacks and corruption in the UN Oil for Food program. And we're talking amounts in the billions that were deprived form Iraqi citizens who were having rotten food and poor quality medicine pushed on them. The scandal involves none other than Saddam Hussein, and, *gasp*, the french and the Russians.

Here is a copy of the March 17, 2004 editorial in which Safire first brings this to light.

Kofi Annan now is calling for an investigation into the alleged corruption.

So can an investigation of these allegations procede unhindered and will it bring out the truth?

Does this susprise anyone that the french and the Russians were involved?

What will happen to all of the parties involved as a result?

I already started a thread on this..it is in International debate. No one has responded and this is not all that big of a story really...as in interest for others.
The thing is tho that the French and Russians have been alleged of scamming on the oil for food program for years. All the sales of oil..the second largest oil reserve sales in the world btw were ran through a French bank. If you go through and read the meetings and sanction revisions on all of Iraq and it's sanctions 13 yr history you will see there is a direct correlation with member nations objecting and new contracts or deals with Iraq being approved or given the green light. No where near the full percentage of the funds created as a result of the oil for food sales even ever made into Iraq on the up and up...something like 25% went for retribution for Kuwait another %10 for operating costs and then supposedly 65% was making it to the dying starving babies...altho that is what is being investigated.

So essentially in my mind the UNSC members who rejected a war on Iraq through agreed upon methods of modern warfare..which usually involves armies and men were perfectly alright with the idea of waging war on under five year olds..and winning ..oh and not to mention profiteering too.

100,000 (some claim A LOT more) children have died in Iraq as a direct result of UN sanctions and now we are all getting a better picture as to why those children died.
