QUOTE(1TinSoldier @ Apr 8 2004, 11:07 AM)

I repeat that I have only heard two explanations given for closing down the newspaper, and both explanations were incredibly lame. The first explanation was that the newspaper printed that 50 Iraqi policemen were killed by an American missile instead of a suicide bomber. The second explanation was that the newspaper compared Bremer to Saddam.

No where have I seen a translated quote from this newspaper calling on Iraqis to revolt and kill occupying forces. If such a quote exists then I would be inclined to agree that Bremer was correct to shut the paper down. If an American newspaper called for the people to revolt against the US Government and kill US Government officials and soldiers, it too would be shutdown.

It wouldn't necessarily be shut down here. The clear and present danger test for speech is as follows: "must be directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action and likely to incite or produce such action."

Now, when you look out your window, do you see military policemen patrolling your street? Are you subjected to a curfew (assuming you are an adult and not under house arrest)? Are you in fear that a civil war is imminent if not for those military police?

The judgement for what classifies as a clear and present danger would be much different in a country with an unstable new government and mass civil unrest than when applied in the United States.

How easy is seems to be for some of our liberal friends, who claim tolerance, diversity and inclusion, so easily call something 'crap' when it doesn't fit into their little worldview, or wasn't broadcast on NPR.
I only hope you are venting primarily against the Bush Administration, which you have every right to. But to belittle Lone Wolf, who is but a cog in the machine is the tactic of those who used to (and sometimes still) call soldiers 'baby killers'.

I said nothing against Lone Wolf and if it was percieved as such I apologize for not being more clear.

The rest of this accusation is a right wing bash and deserves no comment except for this,

The only two people I have ever heard use the term baby killers on Ad have been yourself and Mrs Pig Pen, both conservatives and strangley both in posts responding to me. I have given no indication that this language be used towards me so I would appreciate the flagrant references to it from you military types as a tag on liberals, to be dropped from the discussion because of the vulgarity of it. I have NEVER used this term in MY WHOLE LIFE. Using this to insult others by inference is just as bad as using it against soldiers. Scurrilous and scandalous.

In both cases the reference was gratuitous as well. How is it now that you people are allowed to use this slur when it was so the bone of contention when it happened around 37 years ago ? I was 6 years old btw, way too young to be spitting on soldiers.

Wow, that was a little hotter than expected.

I bring up my classification becasue I can't site. I'm firewalled from most news when I'm on a non-classified line. I read the news almost constantly, but can't transfer info from class to unclass. I still wanted to give my (somewhat inside) opinion on the subject.

I don't know why the translations I've seen of Al-Hawza are classified. I'm not intel. I let them do their job and I do mine. I know that these newspapers were freely distributed and could have been picked up my American media, but they obviously weren't interested. If they had been someone here would be quoting it. So far I haven't seen it yet, the only translations I've seen are classified, and therefore I can't even paraphrase what this tabloid (I refuse to call it a newspaper)had to say.

I'm not here to try to change anyone's opinion and it's a little egotistical to expect me to fulfill your requirements to do so. I'll give what information that I can. If you chose to ignore it, fine. But before you start painting me red, I've never voted republican in my life. I'm a little insulted that my opinions based on classified information are compared to Bush's . . . "information."

You have given no information so far, except that what you know is classifed.
Ok. Several of your posts have said so.

Classified, ( as in important) and tabloid ( as in suspect, ridiculous and unsubstantiated ) seems to me an oxymoron.

Its not in the least egotistical, nor does anyone expect a thing from you. In fact, the more you post the more wonderment comes from a person claiming to have classified information on a constant basis and anything you have an opinion on is based on the same unsubstantiations.

Be it the cynic in me, but I have spent a good deal of time with the military, my own family having quite a few lifers, and a good deal of time on message boards. There has never been someone, even in my own family, who has come out and said, this is classified so 'I cant tell you', nevermind several instances in public.

Forgive me if I am the ultimate cynic, but I suspect an alter ego or a poser. I imagine this can be confirmed by an Ip adress. If I am wrong I will admit it.
Right now, my radar alert to absolute baloney, for lack of use of a stronger wording is going off like a siren.
Lone Wolf
*shrug* what do you want to know?

(You) at exercise-144-106-36-100.22sigbde.army.mil (144.106.36.100) are located in Ft Huachuca, Arizona, United States.

Ft Huachuca is US Signal command, which is our proxy since there are no secure lines around here. 22nd Signal Brigade supports V Corps, which is currently in Iraq. Happy? thumbsup.gif

I'll post somewhere you can log my IP and look it up yourself. If you find out I'm not in Iraq I'll be the first one to celebrate. w00t.gif

Besides, if I was a wanabe super-spy I'd be dishing dirt on Condi, not a 2-bit rag like Al-Hawza.

Let's not get too personal, and try to stay On-Topic.

Topics for Debate:

1. Is this a good example of Democracy?

2. Won't this incite the Iraq people more and cause resentment?
