Surely many of you ivory tower intellectuals in this place have read Geroge Orwell's 1984, the novel about a future totalitarian superstate of Oceania, Big Brother snooping over each and every citizen 24 hrs a day through telescreens and "monitoring" the behavior of citizens (Hi, Jaime!,) and theory of continous war, "doublethink", and so forth. I am also sure that many of you have read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World (words like soma, Alphas, Deltas, Epsilons, Savage and conditioning should ring a bell).
I once had an argued with my English teacher is our world more like (or rather, is likely to become more like) Orwellian 1984 world or Huxley's BNW world? If some of you are confused by question: "Is our world, and US specifically, overall evolving towards more authoritarian/totalitarian, censored, hawkish, global dictatorship (right-wing New World Order conspiracy) or morallly-devoid, ultra-liberal, ultra-pacifistic, carefree, carnal, consumer-oriented, pleasure-centered hypocritical global entertainment-tonight village (Left-wing ultra-liberal conspiracy)?
