CIA director George Tenet may be on his last legs.

Tenet was director over two of the worst intelligence snafus in US history...9/11 and the missing WMDs in Iraq.

The 9/11 blame can be shared throughout the intelligence community, but there is little doubt that Tenet was a key figure.

Now, Bob Woodward comes out and says that Tenet called the WMD case a "slam dunk" to the President after his deputy McLaughlin failed to convince Bush. It seems that Tenet was the one who convinced Bush about the WMDs.

Tenet has been on the hot seat for some time. Last summer, there was speculation that he could get the axe over the "Iraq sought nukes" statement: Bush Team Split as CIA Becomes the Fall Guy

Question for debate: Should George Tenet be fired?

I don't think he should be fired. I think he should resign voluntarily. Why? Because if he was fired, it would look politically motivated, seeing as it's an election year and it would backfire severely.

Should George Tenet resign?

Heard on CNN news yesterday that regardless of who wins the election, George Tenent is resigning before the beginning of the 2005. And, that he has no intentions of writing a "kiss and tell" book.

Can't yet find a link to an article supporting what I heard on CNN either on Saturday or Sunday. If and when I hear or read about it, I will supply a link.

P. S. Read many months ago can't remember where) that Condi Rice gave notice to Bush many months ago that she will not serve another four years. And that, Colin Powell accepted the Cabinet position with the stipulation that he would serve for only four years due to family obligations. Wonder about Rumsfeld? hmmm.gif

If the statements in Woodward's book are accurate, yes. Even Bush had the intelligence to look at the presentation on WMD and say it wasn't convincing.

Though I also think Tenet should have canned the people feeding him the crap that made him draw that conclusion. Even before we "resumed hostilities", the WMD case against Saddam was far from a slam dunk.
