We have never had a "liberal" goverment in Alaska- we have always been a conservative state- the really good fiscal times were under fiscally coservative Democrat leadership with a republican governer.

We have no state revenue outside oil taxes- which is great, no taxes, dividend check etc- but the good times were gone long ago- and due to conservative ideology against taxes and not wanting to end the dividend entitlement- we are in a fiscal crisis. We have had a veto-proof republican majority for over 12 years, but we still have no long term fiscal plan, and in fact, rob peter to pay paul every year.

They did finally fix some of the education problems- but that was only with "liberal" democrat bloc voting due to some interesting budget rules in Alaska.

My question- in light of the massively fiscal irresponsibility of the GW administration, and the proof in Alaska that conservatives only give lip service to fiscal conservatism in our state-

Are conservatives in America able to be fiscally conservative, or is it just a lip service election ploy?

This is a little too vague and looks like a basis for a flame war and not a debate. PM me or mod with something more specific for us to debate.
