A while back we had a thread in which you say something nice about the last person who has posted in the thread. Given the tense nature of current events and the natural defensiveness that comes with election season, I think it's time that we had another "say something nice" session. Many of the recent posts from both sides of the political divide are filled with vitriol and partisanship, and it's really detracting from the quality of the debate on this forum. It's time to embrace your ideological brethren and your opponents and look at the positive side of things, so without further ado...
Say something nice about the last person who posted in this thread.

Kmsouthern is one of the nicest and most civil posters on this board and I always enjoy reading her contributions.
Politically, we're closely aligned on many issues but even if we weren't I would think she's an informed, intelligent and passionate debater and advocate of her views.
Plus, she's just a cool human being.

I like NT's writing style- and his (in common with me) eye for hypocrisy. Morals that don't come from an other's view point- but his own knowledge of what is right and wrong.
Artemise
May 18 2004, 11:27 AM
Cruising Ram is a true alaskan, you know... 'the odds are good but the goods are odd'.
Seriously, luckily I have it easy with this one because we agree on many things and live in the same state.
Cruising Ram is a bit of a rouge (as alaskans are), an individualist, but a real 'family man' who wants to be recognised as such and wants other men to be recognised too if they are doing the right thing. He has a strong sense of personal ethics. He doesnt trust what is force fed and makes his own decisions and writes them here without fear of retribution. I suspect he is a spy for the CIA, but that should not worry us because hes a sympathetic guy when it comes to the mentally deranged, so we are relatively safe.

I snuck in and got an easy one as well. Artemise is one of my favorite contributors to AD. Her posts often have a rare combination of elegance and passion. She supports her arguments well, using both sound reason and supporting documentation when needed/available. I frequently find myself at the end of her posts thinking "wow, she nailed that one" (the argument, and not the person).
She also has one of the cooler avatars here

I'm still in search of one.

Doclotus has only been with us for a little over a month, but his posting has been perfect for the forum since day one. He is simultaneously articulate, persuasive, informative and agreeable. I don't know much about him personally, because he is rather new, but I really like his style.

I get to comment on Mrs. Pigpen??????? I don't know if I am qualified.
Mrs. Pigpen, I appreciate your concise, and accurate replies and posts. It is nice, even when we disagree on a topic, that you stay within the realm of reality while staying on topic. And I like your shirt.

Trust me to pick a hard one.. I haven't had a long acquaintance with
Government Mule on this or other boards, but he (or she) has so far been eminently reasonable, while retaining a sense of humour. I'd say they are a welcome addition to these parts, where the standard of debate is already so high.
They also seem to have a pretty good beat on Bush

I've also learned a lot about debating and researching from Julians excellent additions to debates here at AD

Cyan gives the presence of being cultured, graceful and well read, the type of person you would enjoy having a nice glass of wine during an engaging conversation. Very knowledgeable and always does her homework.
She also seems very even tempered and steady, excellent qualities for her work as an administrator (which she does VERY well).
jenreiautter
May 18 2004, 09:57 PM
Fife and Drum is very articulate, and from the posts I've seen does a great job at being a balanced debater without getting overly emotional on a topic (as I am sometimes guilty of).
I also like his name and avatar!

jenreiautter is a great poster who makes concise, interesting posts and who always has a fresh perspective on the topics she contributes too.
Acute, clear and accurate jenreiautter brings light to the darkest corners. Upon reading her posts, I am often struck by her verve and inspired to strive to meet her high level of contribution.
Would that we all had jenreiautter's even minded approach to the topics we choose to contribute to!

There are so many nice things that can be said about Amlord.
Once you get past the indimidating lion avatars (or when you stumble on the lion king one), it's easy to see that Amlord is genuinely a nice guy.
He is a very valuable member of the staff. He has no problems telling me I'm full of it (which I am), and no problem telling me I'm wrong (never happened).
He can easily set aside his politics and offer an objective opinion on just about any situation, which is not easy to do.
Additionally, he sets an excellent example for the other members of the forum. His posts are well researched, well reasoned, and well cited.
Amlord gets a

Red,

May 19 2004, 06:13 PM
QuaneCorsair is a rare breed, and a good guy I think. First of all, he's a NASCAR racing fan and that gets him in my front door.

Secondly, and more importantly, he's a Conservative Republican living in Northern California!

I always wondered who that one person was.

This makes him not only more rare than the California Condor, but also indicates a person of great courage and conviction. Keep your head on a swivel, Quane, you be in enemy territory!

Aquilla is always a refreshing read when the topics get hot and heavy. Not only is he unbiased and fair, he's an intelligent poster and ingenuitive in his views.
Its important to hotheads like me to see someone debate in a calm, unemotional, objective manner. It's even more important to me to read Aquilla's posts in a thread, because they usually bring the overall bigger picture into focus.
Great job, keep it up!

Doomed planet
She brings 'attitude' where it is needed. Her posts are always intelligent and packed with personality. She is a true individual.
I'll add a few others:
Victoria Silverwolf and turnea
Neither seems to rely on emotive arguments and both can take criticism of their ideas (i.e. they understand the difference between a personal attack and an 'idea' attack). I can't think of two more pertinent qualities for good debate. Sorry, no emoticons. I would throw Hugo in there too, although I haven't deliberated with him much in this forum.

QuantumMekanic cheered me up today when I looked at his signature. Robin Scotland is a bright and creative young man who posts thoughtfully and brings a measure of optimism to the board. His posts often bring a breath of fresh air and (sometimes badly-needed) humor to the debate, and yet he also provides

There sure are a lot of easy ones on here. What a good community we have going here.
Cyan is level headed and fair. It seems like she never gets too emotional during a debate and argues the facts, and she starts great topics in casual conversation to help our little online community bond together. She's also fun and witty to chat with on the first and fifteenth. It also seems that she knows a little bit of Hindi, which never hurts in my book.

Rev_DelFuego always has good posts. And a lot of times he presents views that I never thought about - reminding me that there are more than two sides to every debate

I'm glad he found AD, because its always nice to have another true independent voice.

redliner1989 doesn't feel the need to reveal a lot of info about himself in his profile. I like that - we should all be free to keep our private lives private.
Also, looking through redliner1989's old posts, I see that he has a slightly combative style. Nothing could be better, as it really puts ideas out in a entertaining and concise way. Time/text is not wasted. No "I statements" or other support-group time wasting.

Wow. I like Dev already. It's his 8th post and he had the confidence to post in this thread. I have over a hundred posts and I wasnt going to touch this thread because no one here knows me and I am basically just an unoticed rookie who throws a post in every now and then. I admire a new poster who just jumps in. Shows great promise.
I also do not like my ego being massaged in fact it makes me uncomfortable. So I would appreciate it if no one says anything nice about me...This isnt one of those stacked statements like in regards to a birthday "dont worry about bringing a gift" which of course you have to bring a gift. I really do not want anyone to say anything nice about me. So please dont
I am giving people an out so this thread doesnt have to outlive itself. Its alot of pressure to keep having to say something nice about someone. Its not polite to leave someone hanging so I am giving you the option here.
Dev so impressed me though I had to jump in

Redliner has a great sense of humor and also a very effective debater; I always seek out his posts because they're thoughtful, respectful to the opponent, and yet enjoyable to read and informative. For a while I thought that one of my coworkers hides under his nickname (writing styles and political views are identical, and his name is Red, too!), but alas, my suspicions seem to be false.

English Horn is a great new addition to our community. Since he hails from our old cold war enemy, he can give us great perspectives on issues relating to it, as he did in the Soviet propaganda thread. He also had a very good post in the American Patriotism thread in which he remained neutral and gave a very good objective opinion.

I won't hold being a New Englander against him though.
