I don't know if this is a good enough topic for Jaime, because it's rather wide, but here it is:
Vietnam War: what was it's purpose/main intention, was it justified, was US an agressor or defender, who won it (if anybody) VK or Northern CommParty, did we really lose it, what have we learned from it, hippie/antiwar (I consider them euphemisms here) movement - dentrimental to morale and unpatriotic or sane outcry over senseless bloody morass?

Well the best you can say about it was that it was a war to supposedly stop the ideology of expansionist communism. I can't think much else good to say about it except it gave us a good lesson of what not to do in foreign policy which we seem to have forgotten in Iraq a generation later.

I'm not inclined to go further on the topic because of the time line you offer. 1968 was actually the beginning of the end of our involvement there, when Tet happened and we lost faith in our endeavor and began a slow painful withdrawal. I suggest you leave the beginning time open and focus your questions a little more.

What was its purpose? was it justified? and what went wrong? would give folks plenty to chew on.

Please know the closure of this thread has NOTHING to do with whether or I not I was personally satisfied with it. ALL new topics must conform with the guidelines outlined in the "Starting New Topics" links above. Those guidelines apply to everyone. We just don't close threads because "Jaime" was unhappy with it.
