When I first heard of Amhad Chalabi, my first impressions were of an exiled Iraqi that felt a calling to inform the world of the atrocities committed by Saddam in Iraq, and bring his country men together again in a free and unified Iraq. I have to give him credit for his efforts. He was able to sway US support for his plan for regime change, and it appeared that he wanted to gain nothing from his efforts except a free home land to return to. He denied pursuing public office, so it appeared to me that he did not seek power through his efforts. Now that the State Department has distanced themselves from him having felt deceived, and the new reports that Chalabi leaked secret info to Iran I am left with the question; What are Chalabi's motives? I'll throw out a couple of ideas to debate, but am also interested in other possible alternative motives.

Do you think Chalabi is secretly seeking power in Iraq's new government?

Do you think that Chalabi is motivated by a personal hatred for Saddam, and his removal is all that Chalabi was seeking?

Do you think that Chalabi is still working with the US, and this is part of a bigger plan to give the illusion to Iraqis that there is some distancing between Iraq's future leaders and the CPA?

Was the leaking of info to Iran a retaliation to Chalabi being shunned by the State Department, and the ensuing raid on his offices?

Chalabi was working with Iranian Intel because he was stuck between a rock and a hard place. Literally, because he faces 22 years in prison in Jordan, no other country other than Iran is in a position to help Chalabi once his ties in Washington began to fade with the realization that no WMDs were in Iraq, and his (for lack of a better word) stealing millions from American tax payers with bogus info on Iraqi WMDs.

By telling Iran that the US had cracked the Iranian Intel Code Chalabi consistently with how he has acted in the past, with "Rational Self-Interest".
