1.  Is Larry Bird right or wrong about the need for more white players in the NBA?
I think he's about loony. The NBA should have the best players, not politically correct ones. No need to turn the sport into a political stankpit.

2.  Who is the BEST (American born) white player in the NBA right NOW?   hmmm.gif
I wouldn't know. I don't pay much attention to sports, really.

I don't think it would hurt the NBA if more players were white. They would have to qualify to join a team just like any other player, right?

It's understandable that Larry Bird would say this, considering that (quite) a few years ago now Isiah Thomas made the statement that Larry Bird was only recognized for his abilities because he was white. (That might be too long ago for many of our posters to remember, but it created a brouhaha when it happened.)

It probably wouldn't hurt the NHL, either, if there were more black players in it. I am sure that black athletes can skate on ice as well as white athletes do, if they have a genuine interest in doing it.

Excelling in a sport depends on an athlete's abilities and his/her interest in the sport, right? cool.gif

As far as the best basketball player, I have no idea.

Edit: This IS an old thread. I just went back and read my post of July 12, 2004. Glad I'm still agreeing with myself on this one! blush.gif
