Are you a progressive, centrist-moderate, conservative, or libertarian democrat? If you are not any of the above-how would you classify yourself?

I would say im a centrist-moderate. I consider myself a social liberal though. I do not care if gays marry, adopt, run boy scouts basically anything. I am against Partial birth abortions and against the bureaucracy that democrats create...although republicans do the same thing but are somehow better because they publicly say they hate them . I am fundamentally against affirmative action and think it is a racist platform.....I also think it is currently necessary but I wish for it to be ultimately abolished in the future. I am for military though. I am not of the Kucinich breed that think all war is bad and should be avoided at all cost. I think Pacifists are a major threat to democracy. I am ultra worried about the environment. I am all for capital punishment....but think it should be nationally halted and revised to be more efficient. I hate Michael Moore and think he is a dishonest filmaker who needs to go on a diet.

I think I have to be a moderate. Before I came here I wasnt really anything at all. I have now classified myself as a democrat and I think im a moderate because I am nothing like Kucinich and I am not a conservative and I have few liberatarian views except for more laxed FCC laws and decriminalization of Marijuana and lowering of drinking age to 18.

I would call myself a pragmatic leftist. I support a lot of the ideas of the left and some of the ideas that might be considered far left. But I don't see a reason to demand change for tomorrow or to charge too far too fast.

Social libertarian in the keep the government out of my house kind of way
Fiscal responsibility-- other than emergencies, if you are going to spend it come up with the means of payment in the form of higher taxes or cuts in other areas or improvements in efficiency.
Pro-progressive taxation
Pro-democratic socialism. I'm glad we have a strong opposition to programs in this country so that we do not get an overextended socialized sector, but I firmly believe that there are areas where the government needs to be involved. (Social Security, Public health insurance)
Firm, fair business regulation that strives staves off corporate welfare and effectively regulates unfair business, accounting, and market practices.

I think this is better for corporations, employees, and stockholders.

I'm confusing myself, so I'll stop.

Categories are for beans, not politicial affiliations. I don't like to pigeonhole myself into tidy little categories such as "progressive" or "moderate" or anything else.

On some issues I'm extremely progressive. At other times I can be solidly liberal, pragmatically moderate and on occasion downrght conservative. It all depends.

That's not a direct answer to the question poised, but it's a honest one.

I'm just not sure what kind of Democrat I am, but I'm open to suggestions.

For:

1) Universal Health Coverage
2) Improvement of all schools, including hiring more teachers, subsidizing building repairs, classroom equipment and books, and paying teachers a living wage
3) Unions
4) Additional penalties for hate crimes
5) Trade restrictions so that we export more and import less
6) Higher anti-pollution standards
7) Shoring up Social Security
8) Birth control pills, condoms, etc.
9) The National Guard being used here to protect our citizens and watch our borders and coastlines
10) More jobs here by employing people to work on improving our country's infrastructure

Against:

1) Pre-emptive war, or any war where the evidence doesn't add up before we commit troops and equipment
2) The Patriot Act and its subsequent abuses of our right to privacy, freedom of speech and of peaceful assembly, denial of writ of habeas corpus, etc.
3) Abortion, especially if used as a form of birth control (vs. contraception) and late-term abortion
4) Capital punishment
5) Government or military officials who see the Geneva Conventions as "quaint" or use loopholes to try to wriggle their way out of using them as their guide
6) Developing more nukes
7) Corporate welfare
8) An inordinate amount of secretiveness (not secrecy--e.g., the Valerie Plame outing by an undisclosed official in the administration) and unwillingness on the part of government to disclose what they, our "public servants," have been up to
9) The draft

What does it all mean?

I believe, out of those four, I'm closest to a Progressive Democrat. However, I voted for Dean in the primaries, not Kucinich.

If you weren't against free-trade, I would make the argument that you would be a centrist-moderate. Since you are somewhat of an isolationiost in that regard, you are more of the old progressive strain of thought. You ought to buy a VW van, run for senate, and mount a Paul Wellstone style campaign!! Paladin in 2004!

I guess I am Blue Dog category, though with many social issues I fall within the Libertarian Dem group. I use to call myself a moderate.. and found after way to many debates with my fellow Dems that I guess I really am not a Moderate Just consider me your lost little Blue Puppy. in a nutshell:

What a cool place to make my 200th post

I am honestly not sure where I fall in the spectrum. Of the websites you linked Nebraska, I agree (and disagree) with several of the things from the Progressive, Centrist and Libertarian Democrat's sites.

I'm definitely open to suggestions as to where I fit, but I guess the easiest thing to do is list some of the things I support or disagree with.

Support
- Pro-Choice
- Staunch supporter of the Bill of Rights and Civil Liberties
- Pro-Homosexual Marriage
- Universal Health Coverage
- Large increases in Education spending, in order to lead in the 21st century this really needs to be our #1 priority
- Pro-Copyright and Intellectual Property Law
- Pro-Free Trade but with the caveat that we need to enforce global standards so it really is "free"
- For eliminating all forms of "obscenity" and "morality" laws
- Tax Reform, although I'm on the fence about what I'd support
- International cooperation and UN reform, it would be beneficial at times to have a legitimate form of global gov't
- Heavy Environmental Regulation
- Heavy funding of alternate energy sources now
- Increased funding for Space Initiatives and Pure and Applied Research
- War on Terror, but I don't like the Bush administration's strategy, I would do things differently

Against
- Death Penalty
- Corporate Welfare
- Draft
- Anti-Patriot Act
- Social Security -- this needs to be privatized and made the responsibility of the individual. I would support legislation to require all employees to have a 401K and contribute X percent, but I disagree with this being the domain of the government.
- School Vouchers
- War In Iraq
- Developing more Nukes and WMD
- Government secrecy and breaking laws for expediency
- Fear Mongering by the Government
- Unfunded Mandates passed for political points

That is all I can really think of right now, I'm sure there are probably 10 or 20 things I didn't cover.
