There is a local TV show called "Sonoran Living: Live", which I don't often watch but happened to catch this morning. At the opening of the show, the hosts/anchors announced that they had a handwriting analysis expert in studio and would talk briefly about handwriting analysis as a measure of one's personality. This piqued my interest, so I watched. I've always been rather intrigues by handwriting analysis and the possibility of learning a lot about a person by their writing.

So, after the show I got online to see if I could locate any free handwriting analyses online and sure enough, I did! So I spent a few minutes doing a sample writing and then took the 20-30 minutes to answer the questions about my writing as proposed on the site: Handwriting: The Inner Secrets Revealed!

After submitting the answers, here is the report that came back:

Personality Description

To begin the analysis, the subject's handwriting shows more of a fluency and flow than the average script. The writing impulse is unbroken and the words sweep forward with relative ease. This released writing indicates a generally easy-going and less conformist attitude than the average. The subject will prefer the unusual to the familiar, and will be more likely to express her emotions and feelings than a writer with restrained script.

The heavy pressure used in the script indicates that the subject has an above average activity level. She enjoys having plenty to do and dislikes being delayed or obstructed. She has a need to work off excess energy in an active occupation or leisure pursuit.

The comparative height of the capital letters to the ascenders in the script indicates that the subject has a mildly assertive personality. She is more confident and perhaps dominant in relationships, and finds it easier to strike up a conversation with strangers. She is likely to speak out forthrightly and can defend herself quite well if under attack. In a quarrel she could argue quite openly to defend her rights. She is more likely to complain about shoddy goods or poor service.
She will also make a good host and can liven up a party.
She would make a good leader, but may be intolerant of other people if their views clash with her own. She prefers to be taken seriously and may become irritated if she is not.

The handwriting shows some signs of expansiveness, and this is an indication of an extrovert personality. The writer has an above average need for space and dislikes being confined. This hunger for space is reflected in the script.
This expansiveness shows in the subject's social relationships. She is likely to be more comfortable in company than on her own, and perhaps takes life more lightly than the average person. She may become quite easily bored, and often yearns for change and variety.
She is likely to express her feelings and moods quite freely, and is reasonably unconcerned with disorder or lack of control.

The handwriting is very simplified, and this indicates that the subject is highly intelligent (scoring 4 out of a possible 5 in the IQ categories). She has the intellectual capacity that would enable her to be successful in a career such as accountant, lawyer, doctor or university lecturer.

A subtle variation in pressure throughout the script indicates the possibility that the subject may be a little more over-anxious than normal and more prone to emotional upsets.
However, there are no other indications of such emotional problems in the script, and these emotional outbursts will be quite infrequent.

There are a few indications in the handwriting that, at the time of writing, the subject was suffering from mild stress. This may be temporary, for example if she was upset, tired, or working against a deadline. However, the subject may be living at an unacceptable level of stress, one which is beginning to affect her physical well being.
These are warning signs in the handwriting, and indicate that the subject should pause and reflect on those aspects of her lifestyle which may be causing long-term difficulties. She should try to reduce them whenever possible, relax more frequently, check her diet, and perhaps take more exercise. Stress can be beneficial, but if allowed to get out of control, it may prove a hazard to mental and physical health.

END OF REPORT

I just kept nodding my head and thinking "wow this is TOTALLY me". Everything is pretty much dead on (though I would consider myself "worldly" and a definite perfectionist - apparently my handwriting disagrees.

So...what does your handwriting say about you? Do you think there's anything to handwriting analysis as a measure of personality? Do you think your analysis was accurate? For the record, handwriting analysis is actually quite scientific nowadays and was apparently used at a variety of times throughout history in the selection processes for many appointments/jobs (apparently used in WWI and WWII in the selection of vessel captains in the Navy).

Personality Description

To begin the analysis, the subject's handwriting shows more of a fluency and flow than the average script. The writing impulse is unbroken and the words sweep forward with relative ease. This released writing indicates a generally easy-going and less conformist attitude than the average. The subject will prefer the unusual to the familiar, and will be more likely to express his emotions and feelings than a writer with restrained script.

The pressure used throughout the script is average in intensity, indicating that the subject is able to maintain a balance between too much activity and too great a degree of lethargy. As a result, he lacks the intense drive and enthusiasm shown by writers with heavy pressure, but will be equally tolerant of inactivity in those who use a lower pressure in their script. He will be good at working methodically at the more routine tasks.

The signature is written quite illegibly indicating some sense of superiority. Writers who scrawl their signature are saying that the reader of the document should know who they are, without having to actually be able to read the words. He is also conveying the impression that he is working at high speed under pressure, and this is all of his valuable time that he can spend on the issue.

The comparative height of the capital letters to the ascenders in the script indicates that the subject has a mildly assertive personality. He is more confident and perhaps dominant in relationships, and finds it easier to strike up a conversation with strangers. He is likely to speak out forthrightly and can defend himself quite well if under attack. In a quarrel he could argue quite openly to defend his rights. He is more likely to complain about shoddy goods or poor service.
He will also make a good host and can liven up a party.
He would make a good leader, but may be intolerant of other people if their views clash with his own. He prefers to be taken seriously and may become irritated if he is not.

Several 't' bars in the script point downwards, which indicates that the subject exhibits a certain degree of ambition.
He has an above average drive to obtain goals and objectives, and likes to succeed at things that he attempts. Obstacles are often regarded as challenges to be overcome, and he likes competition and action.

There are a few signs of aggression throughout the handwriting, which indicate a mildly aggressive personality.
As the writer has a high IQ, the chances are that aggression, when shown, will normally be expressed verbally, with sarcasm, caustic remarks and mockery.
When aggression is expressed indirectly, the subject will feel a need for revenge if slighted. He may harbour a grudge, while waiting for the appropriate moment to get He own back.

Certain embellishments within the handwriting indicate an above average level of worldliness and sophistication. The subject may attempt to appear more poised or sophisticated than the average person.
He may seem emotionally detached and superficial in personal relationships, even if his feelings are deep and genuine. He may sometimes appear sceptical in his approach to life and possibly has a lower faith in human nature as a result.

A number of artful simplifications in the handwriting show that the subject is considerably intelligent (scoring 3 out of a possible 5 in the IQ categories). He has the intellectual capacity that would enable him to be successful in a career such as teaching, journalism or computer programming.

There are some indications within the handwriting of compulsive behaviour.
Compulsiveness is an anxiety reducing strategy in which the subject makes a ritual out of many of the most trivial aspects of life. When attempting to solve problems which cause anxiety, he will attempt to do so by constant and repetitive efforts. This will be maintained, even if the problem turns out to be insoluble.
Such an exaggerated determination means that the subject is often regarded by others as being conscientious. However, because of these rigid problem solving strategies he finds it difficult to look at problems from a fresh angle and to consider a different method of approach. Often, this rigid problem solving procedure, whether at work or in personal relationships, is not an attempt to reach a solution but a defence reaction. Typical compulsions are checking the doors and windows a prescribed number of times each night, even if one check would be sufficient, worrying about 'bad' thoughts for fear that they will come true, and checking and re-checking every piece of work to avoid any possibility of mistake. All these, and many other forms of compulsive behaviour are best summed up as 'not being able to leave well alone'.
At present, the subject's level of compulsive behaviour is probably a mild inconvenience, but it could prove to dominate his existence. This should be taken as a warning sign to take life rather less seriously, to strive for less perfection, precision and order, and to relax more often.

An interesting analysis....
Hobbes
I have had mine done before, and had to say it was very accurate. There was one item which I initially disagreed with, but had, on further inspection, to admit that it was at least partially true. In asking other people who have had this done, they seemed to find it similarly accurate. Interesting how such a relatively simple analysis can yield such insightful and accurate info into someone's personality.

I'll spare you the lengthy analysis and jump to the point: pain in the rear. I take issue with two things: a sedentary lifestyle and wanting to be around people.

While we're busy loving ourselves I'm an INTJ.

As a result, she lacks the intense drive and enthusiasm shown by writers with heavy pressure, but will be equally tolerant of inactivity in those who use a lower pressure in their script. She will be good at working methodically at the more routine tasks.

The subject has a signature that is larger than 77% of the population and as a result sees herself in a relative position of power and responsibility.
She is more confident than the average signer.

There are a number of signs of aggression throughout the handwriting, and these characteristics point to a moderately aggressive personality.
This will usually be achieved using verbal attacks rather than physical assaults, relying on her intellectual skills to bombard her victim with mockery, sarcasm and cruel jokes.

The handwriting shows expansiveness, and this use of space is linked with an extravert personality.

The subject has an above average physical and mental need for space around her and hates to be confined. When writing, this hunger for space reveals itself in a desire to cover as much paper as possible with her letters and words.
Expansiveness is also the cornerstone of her social relationships. She prefers company, such as a noisy party, rather than being left alone to watch television or read a book. She probably has many friendships, but all maintained at a fairly superficial level.

She prefers more excitement and risk than the average person, taking life lightly as a result. She probably appears impulsive, blurting out remarks without thinking first, buying goods on impulse, and making major decisions about her life on the whim of the moment. She could be easily bored and often yearns for change and variety. She is likely to freely express her feelings and moods, even if she tries to cover them up. She is not too concerned by some disorder and lack of control, and may even become bored if there is too much order in her life.

Some of this is accurate, but the last few paragraphs are the antithesis of me. I do not like like loud spaces or large groups, and I tend to keep fewer, closer friends. I would much rather stay at home in a quiet space reading a book or watching a film with less than four people, and I am not terribly impulsive. I do not yearn for excitement and risk. It just stresses me out. wink2.gif

pretty accurate, with a few exceptions:

I HATE being with other people. I keep very much to myself and say little when I'm with other people, even family.

I was tired at the time I wrote the sample I used (it was at bedtime) though I would say I am under some stress. I need to find full time work, probation kind of rides me (not as bad as they do others though) I have to pay the courts at least 50 a month and the open door mission 35 a week.

what I particularly liked though was:

Curious, does anyone underline their signature? I underline other people's names on cards or presents when giving gifts with a wavy line and then a continuous motion of little loops and slashes, but never do this for my own signature - I wonder what that would mean (guess I could go back and find out).

Guess I should go back and check out what it says about underlining the signature and report back.

QUOTE
The signature is also underlined in quite an exaggerated manner. The subject wishes to draw attention to herself and probably feels unable to do this in other ways. Unable to make her presence felt in a more immediate and direct way, she is using the embellishment as a form of compensation.

Ah, that's what I figured it supposedly meant. I just do it for decoration, which is I guess why I don't do it on my own signature.

It's funny, but my handwriting has changed SO MUCH over time. I seem to have a lot more continuity in my writing now than I used to, but I definitely have made some things "my own" over time - like the use of capital 'r's in place of lower case 'r's in cursive - they are the same size as other lowercase letters, but I replace the boring lowercase 'r' with a capital...don't know how that came about, but I have to force myself NOT to do it when filling out applications and such.

QUOTE
The heavy pressure used in the script indicates that the subject has an above average activity level. He enjoys having plenty to do and dislikes being delayed or obstructed. He has a need to work off excess energy in an active occupation or leisure pursuit.

The subject has a signature that is smaller than 85% of the population, and as a result does not have a very high opinion of himself preferring to avoid the limelight whenever possible.
Although he may enjoy the benefits of high status, if the role is forced upon him , he is unlikely to seek acclaim and attention. He is more modest than a writer with a big signature and can accept criticism more readily.

The handwriting shows some signs of a perfectionist personality. The subject may seem to be more orderly and methodical than most, and be somewhat over-concerned with small details and fussy about trivial matters.
His space saving style of writing relects a desire to conserve, both in material things such as money, and relationships. He will usually be punctual, and thus appears to be reliable and conscientious.
He may attempt to appear morally superior on some occasions and will usually go by the book, following the letter of the law and abiding by those in authority.
He will generally be undecided about the best course of action to take, and will appear to have a number of self-doubts.

Emotionally, the subject may have a tendency to worry more than the average person, perhaps appearing somewhat nervous and excitable. He may not only worry about everyday problems, but over extreme and unlikely events.
In addition, he may experience greater guilt than other people, is more prone to depression, and may sometimes appear to be unhappy as a result. His sleep may be interrupted and, with poor concentration, and he may appear somewhat forgetful.
These emotional reactions may interfere with his judgements and responses in everyday life. His responses to situations may become rigid, and he will develop a particular way of doing things, even if the response is inappropriate. Problems may be avoided rather than confronted. This could be a mental avoidance, or a physical refusal to attempt certain tasks which may cause anxiety.
In other words, there is a clash between the way the subject thinks he should behave, and the reality of what he actually feels capable of doing. The outward sign of this confusion will probably be an inconsistency in behaviour. For a time he will attempt to regulate every aspect of his life and bottle up emotions and feelings. Then, all at once, this restraint will give rise to excess, during which time little effort will be expended in enforcing control over various aspects of his lifestyle.
Becoming aware of these problems may help the subject bring his troubles into a more realistic perspective. He should try to determine the root causes of these emotional difficulties and determine the best way to resolve the most pressing of them. In this way it is hoped that these influences do not have too serious an effect on the writer's life.

I really got the short end of the stick.
